UK CLASS WINTER TRAINING Lymington, 8/9 April
Glorious blue skies and pleasant medium breezes blessed Lymington for the sixth and final monthly RS Aero UK Winter Training weekend of this season. However, there was nothing wintery about this weekend with summer kit and suncream coming out for the first time this year!

Lymington Training - 8/9th April
LAST CALL for Lymington - not so Wintery anymore for the sixth and final monthly weekend of this seasons Winter Training.
We have 14 sailors signed up already and will cap the entry at 18-20.
Timings - The start time will be the usual 10:00 Saturday, 09:30 Sunday with boats ready but sailors not changed into kit.
Plan - As usual the plan will be sent to entrants on Wednesday once we know the forecast.
Coaches -
This weekend we have Chloe Martin together with our regular coach, Paul Robson. It is great to use a variety of coaches and learn a little of their specialised subject from each one. Chloe finished 3rd at a Laser Radial European Championship and last year borrowed an RS Aero to blow the RS Aero 7 fleet away with 6 straight wins at the Southern Champs. Her particularly noticeable gain was down wind - playing the waves and promoting planing.
So with a focus on waves, upwind and down, together with sailing in a current (always on the agenda in Lymington). We have the likelihood of some good wind against tide and medium breezes this weekend which should allow for a high proportion downwind relative to the upwind. I am looking forward to Chloe helping me keep up through the waves with Per Christian (NOR) and Kristo (EST) in time for the World Champs!
Charter RS Aeros - most events coming up are booked up but Lymington still has some charters available for the 8/9th if you are quick. Book these through Ben Rolfe (RS Sailing) e: [email protected]

RS Aero UK Youth Squad 2017-18
Youth Squad Applications will be open from the 7th of April until the 1st of October. Ben will be on hand to give a parents briefing with more information and to answer questions about the Youth Programme for 2017/18 on the 8th of April at the final Winter Training at Lymington. This will be held shortly after the boats have launched for the training session. Paper copies of the application form will also be available to complete at Lymington. If you are unable to attend all information will be posted onto the RS Aero Class website.

The fifth of our monthly weekends and spring is definatelty here - with warmer weather and good breezes! We have our normal two coach, two rib format and a few spaces are still available.

The fifth of this winters monthly training weekends is coming up at Draycote.
The days are getting longer and spring is definitely here!
We have our normal two coach format and for Draycote we have Ross Harvey and Paul Robson.
We all know Paul well as our regular coach and he showed the fleet the way around the course at the last race of the 47 RS Aero Winter Champs at Oxford in his 7 rig recently.
Ross Harvey is new to the team. He sails from Hayling and Bowmoor and his father has owned an RS Aero. Ross has been Laser Radial UK Youth Squad coach 2014-16 and podiumed twice at their UK Nationals. It is great to have his expertise add to our winter training program and he is familiar with the RS Aero having frequently borrowed his Dad's boat!
10 sailors are already signed up and the Charter RS Aeros are all now booked!
We are sharing the weekend with the RS Teras again so it should be a fun busy weekend with a few of their parents and siblings joining us.

RS Aero Winter Training - Oxford Plan
Oxford Sailing Club 18/19th February 2017
(18th - The Oxford Blue, 19th - Winter Training) 
Coaches: Paul Robson and Hannah Snellgrove
Start time:
Saturday reg from 09:00, Official race briefing 10:00, First Start 11:00.
Sunday 09:30 - Boats rigged, Sails down. Not changed
Forecast (as of 16th Feb): Saturday SSW 7-14kts, Sunday W 9-18kts
Weekend Focus: Dealing with big fleets, starting, strategy and decision making Oxford Blue regatta on Saturday. Two half day sessions planned for Sunday with briefing, on the water exercises and debrief.
Saturday
On hand to assist will be our coach team of; Hannah Snellgrove 2001, Paul Robson 2161, Peter Barton 2093, Matt Thursfield 1744 and David Ellis 1209.
Saturday evening - (all important!) if you fancy catching up for a drink and/or dinner Ben suggests the cosy Talbot Inn OX29 4BT ( 5 mins away by car). Plan to have dinner around 6:30-7pm. Text Ben on 07814634892 for spaces if you want to eat there.

RS Aero UK Winter Training - Alton Water, 28/29 Jan 2017
After a good break over new year the RS Aero monthly winter training fires up again at Alton Water in the east this weekend. The weather is warming up in time for the weekend and hopefully we should have a nice medium strength breeze for the 15 signed up.
PAUL ROBSON and HANNAH SNELLGROVE (3 times Laser Radial UK National Champion) are the coaches for this weekend. Hannah has invested huge time, dedication and attitude into gaining the form which produced her titles in the bid for Olympic selection. We are incredibly fortunate to have Hannah involved, assisting our Class programme alongside Paul. pastingWhenever she speaks please be sure to focus intently and WRITE DOWN all the key points - and then explain them to me too next time you see me!!!
- Start at 10:00am (rigged, but sails down and not changed) on both Saturday and Sunday.- There is a cafe adjacent to the sailing centre for lunch purchases.

ITS A SELLOUT! - With 20 RS Aeros registered we have closed the online entry to maintain our good resourcing and the quality of coaching provided. If anybody knows that they are now not coming or are only doing one day, please let me know.
Myself & Paul Robson are coaching with Ben Rolfe assisting and providing RS Sailing support. [Shaun Priestley's work came through in Bermuda, it was a tough call for him!]
Forecast looks good, like Oxford two weeks ago it is increasing through the weekend.
With an Easterly breeze forecast I recommend launching of HISC's north facing beach behind the clubhouse, not their east facing beach adjacent to the car park.

Just one week to go to our first UK Winter Training at Oxford, the first of our series of 6 weekends, with one each month throughout the winter.
We have signed up some top quality coaches to try to bring on our Youths and progress the UK class as a whole - all are welcome!
SHAUN PRIESTLEY - World Class International Coach
Shaun has run International clinics at SailLaser on Lake Garda, assisted private International clients to the top level and provided Paralympic Pathway coaching.
Shaun will lead the weekends at Oxford in November, Hayling in December and Draycote in March.
HANNAH SNELLGROVE - 3 times Laser Radial UK National Champion
Having signed up, Hannah first raced an RS Aero this morning! With nine RS Aeros out at Lymington she gave us all a good beating! We look forward to her top tips on how to sail a single hander fast and smart at Alton Water in January and Oxford in February. At Oxford in Feb, Hannah shall race the Oxford Blue RS Aero Winter Champs on the Saturday, assisting coached sailors before, after and in between races - then on the Sunday shall work on all learning points arising.

Chloe raced an RS Aero at Lymington's UK Southern Champs this summer and blitzed the RS Aero 7 fleet with her skills refined from the Radial class. Chloe will lead the Lymington weekend in April. Peter will assist onshore and sail at several of the weekends including both the first two at Oxford and Hayling. For specific RS Aero knowledge and experience few people have spent more hours racing the RS Aero. Come and spar against Peter and have a first hand demonstration of his techniques in the boat.

Paul delivered last year's Winter Training and his involvement and dedication will continue to be an asset with this seasons program.
BEN ROLFE
Ben will be on hand representing RS Sailing to provide charter boats and support. Ben took 2nd place at this year’s RS Aero 9 European Champs in Germany and shall assist the coaching.
