Home >> General Discussion >> SATURDAY or SUNDAY preference for one day events in the UK?
Thanks for all the responses to date everybody. Keep them coming here.

From the responses so far we have a guide to try for arranging UK one days events to be approximately 75% Saturday and 25% Sunday where possible, which is useful to know.

This 'quick survey' is an indication of sailor's wishes. However we are of course also effected by what is on offer by host clubs were a choice of which day might not by available due to their own schedule and resource. For example our just announced 2017 UK River Champs is on a Sunday as Nottingham SC have their main club sailing on Saturdays. However at Reading SC we have been given a choice, so this indication of sailor preference is useful for that.

The question of 1 or 2 day events is a different one.
For more major events and varied/interesting/nice/distant places to visit we would tend to go for a 2 day event as appropriate.
For smaller inland venues one day is normally a good option.
For one day events we can always check with the club as to whether individuals joining their racing/activity for the second day is a possibility.

One day events on a Sunday are the ones that I am most likely to be able to make as I am usually taking kids to their sporting events on Saturdays!

I prefer 2 day events but 1 day events on Saturday suit better. Allows for club sailing on Sunday's or the option to extend and race the Sunday at the hosting club

One day events preferred. Can be either day. Preference for Saturday in the summer because I'm usually coaching juniors on Sunday afternoons (hence can't do many (any) two day events.

Personally, I prefer a one day-er it's (a bit) easier to sneak off to and Saturday seems better.

'In general we support Sundays but it makes no real difference to us....so it is not a strong vote. Hope this helps in a small way.'

I have a definite preference for one day events. Not really worried if that's a Saturday or a Sunday - though I'm likely to have more clashes if a Saturday, as Sunday is reserved for Sailing!

Don't really mind. It is usually a long way for us (from North Berwick) either way!

Hi, outside of large class events such as "end of seasons" my preference would be for one day events. I think it will possibly easier with clubs on Saturday as we would not disrupt the club racing that tends to be on a Sunday especially as a growing class.

Saturdays, avoids conflict with club raceing.

SATURDAY or SUNDAY preference for one day events in the UK?

We have enjoyed some great turnouts consistently throughout the autumn and are just putting together the final touches to the 2017 RS Aero UK calendar. It should be about complete by the new year and has been steadily evolving here; http://www.rsaerosailing.org/index.asp?p=events&rg=UK

QUICK SURVEY -

Please can I canvas the opinion of UK sailors in a quick survey on;

- Whether you prefer for one day open meetings to be on Saturdays or Sundays?
- Is that a pretty strong/consistent preference, or are you fairly in the balance?

We can try, were possible, to arrange future events in line with the proportional result of the response to this forum survey.
