WEEKEND ROUND UP - 10/11 Feb
There were no dedicated RS Aero events going on over the weekend, so there is very little to report...
...or maybe there is!

DESENZANO, LAKE GARDA, ITALY
Congratulations to Gabriele Foschini (VC Desenzano) in his RS Aero 7 in winning the mixed class Winter Regatta on Lake Garda, Italy.

STAUNTON BLASTER
Staunton Harold SC’s weekend event was the first half of the series shared with Notts County SC’s ‘Cooler’ on the 24/25th Feb, the latter being on our RS Aero UK Winter Series. Well done the young Roscoe Martin (Ogston) in his RS Aero 5 who pipped his Dad, Kent, to take 4th overall after winning the first race from the 30 entries.

LYMINGTON PERISHERS
David Ellis has been doing it for the 5s, nailing two 2nd places in his RS Aero 5 on both the last two Sundays, from nearly 30 mixed class starters. This Sunday had an expanded fleet of RS Aeros having returned from their travels racing RS Aeros in exotic locations like Florida and Devon. We were treated to a huge monster squall that flattened the course for some 10 minutes during racing! Winds peaked at over 42 knots (42kn and 53kn were recorded at Lymington and Hurst) and for a while very few remained upright whilst the squall passed! Only 7 of the 28 starters made a finish but pleasingly the robustness and manageability of the RS Aeros shone through with a much higher proportion with 4 out of 8 RS Aeros finishing and none with any breakage.
Keith Willis and Peter Barton accepted their medicine, sticking with their RS Aero 9s having started the long series with them. Peter took 4th with no capsize and pulled off a gybe as the wind was increasing towards its max; “go in fast and just don’t let her decelerate too much!”. Nev Herbert took 5th and Julie Willis, after contemplating retiring, gave herself a good talking to and headed back out complete the course and take 6th, one ahead of son Liam (series leader) who had been extensively surveying the underside of his B14 during the squall. Lots of excited big stories followed in the bar after!

PORTISHEAD - CHANNEL CHOP
John Harvey (Thornbury) came a creditable 9th from 24 starters in his RS Aero 7 at Portishead (with trapezes taking the top spots), which was part of the Sailing Southwest Winter Series.

ISLAND BARN
At Island Barn SC, West London, Paul Wright-Anderson took the win in the morning with his RS Aero 7. Both Gareth and Jeff went big with RS Aero 9s and pulled off some fancy stunts before changing down to 7s in the afternoon to take a win each.

BOWMOOR
Antony Lynall held the fort for the RS Aeros, winning the morning race, before passing the baton to Charlie Sansom to take out the afternoon race. Both in RS Aero 7s.

NORTH BERWICK, SCOTLAND
North of the border Iain McGonigal and John Wilcox shared the wins over 3 races in their RS Aero 7s at North Berwick, Scotland, from a small but determined fleet at East Lothian YC.

EASTERN UK WINTER TRAINING at Alton Water
18 sailors a mixture of the Rooster UK Youth Team and adults had a great weekend at Alton with a mix of conditions. Our 3 top coaches delivered a weekend with a focus on ‘developing feel’.
These weekends touring the country are a great way to upskill or get a booster if new to the class. One new owner commented; “Thank you….I definitely learnt a lot and would encourage others to go to these events.
This was the first time I had travelled with the aero and met other people from the class and I was pleased to find everyone was friendly and welcoming as well as being really helpful both on and off the water. Going to see if I can make some other events too now!”
Two more Winter Training weekends remain at Burghfield in March and Weymouth in April. Check out the UK Events List for details.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Enjoying their summer and fresh after their RS AERO NSW State Champs last weekend, Nick Collis-George scored a win towards the Balmoral SC Club Championship.
