RS Aero UK Southwestern Championship - Salcombe YC, Devon, UK, 10/11th Sept

Salcombe Yacht Club put on another excellent weekend for us and once again the beauty of their harbour was matched by its intriguing racing challenges, as the wind weaved its way through the narrow ria valleys. It was never over until it was over!

Thanks to our new Southwestern Champion, Mark Ripley (PaigntonSC), for his report and to Lucy Burn for her photos with a full selection at Instagram - @syc_sailing_photos & https://lbcreate.pixieset.com/sailing/

REPORT & RESULTS

FUN FACT:
ria is a coastal inlet formed by the partial submergence of an unglaciated river valley. It is a drowned river valley that remains open to the sea. Good examples are Salcombe and Sydney harbours.

Online Entry is Open!

We look forward to visiting Salcombe's magical Devonshire venue and its beautiful yet challenging race course again for another enchanting weekend in 2022.

To combine the best features of the worlds most iconic sailing harbours - Sydney, San Fran and a dash of Sardinia's Porto Cervo shaken into the mix could produce Salcombe on the English Riviera! Funnelling breezes, awesome backdrops, challenging tides, a balmy micro climate - with the ever present potential for a mighty apres sail!

Championship courses on open water are one good test of racing skills. However, sailing on Salcombe's ria valley with the intrigue of tricky tides and swirling breezes under high headlands presents a whole new game of sailor cunning and intuition! The chances are that every one might get to lead at some point whilst we weave our way down the harbour, which all then fuels the bar talk later too! The beautiful backdrop and lovely town makes for a weekend to remember and we look forward to our return!

All RS Aeros will race together on PY corrected time.
