It’s a wrap!
The 2021 RS Aero UK Nationals saw a whopping fleet of 144 RS Aeros signed up for a fun week hosted at Hayling Island Sailing Club. A good mixture of conditions provided excellent racing with opportunities for everyone to shine.

The 2021 RS Aero UK Nationals saw a whopping fleet of 144 RS Aeros signed up for a fun week hosted at Hayling Island Sailing Club. A good mixture of conditions provided excellent racing with opportunities for everyone to shine.
The final two days saw the top of all three fleets very close with tight battles to the end. Each title decided by a point or less!
Many thanks to Hayling Island Sailing Club for being such excellent and welcoming hosts with an abundance of enthusiasm and expertise. Our Race Officer Mark Woods did a splendid job following the wind as necessary and with minimal delay which enabled great racing with 11 races in a good variety of conditions.
Huge thanks to the support of Rooster, Seldén Mast, RS Sailing and Harken in providing an excellent spread of goodie prizes with daily awards where the leaders passed on their top tips daily on how they did it! ‘Drinks for Tallies’ hosted by RS Sailing and Selden Mast was as popular as ever and enabled a refreshing sociable chat after the day’s racing. The fleet of charter RS Aeros provided by RS Sailing enabled both extra family members and new sailors to the Class to try out and join the fleet for the Championship.
The Class now moves to a busy late summer and autumn schedule with championships in Sweden, Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands. The domestic UK scene is as packed as ever with a variety of events headed by the upcoming Inland Championships at Draycote on 16/17th October with 100 RS Aeros anticipated.

RS Aero UK Nationals at Hayling
Thanks to Sammy I-j for his coaching session ashore this morning, sharing the lessons learnt over the Class’ seven years to help those new to the Class and to championship racing.
The fleet is out for the RS Aero Challenge Cup at 15:00 today supported by Harken before the championship series kicks off tomorrow.

CLUB & FAMILY CHAMPS - at the RS Aero UK Nationals, Hayling
With a whopping record of 140 entries the Club and Family Champs are both set to be hotly contested this year.
For the Club Champs the top three sailors’ overall rankings from each club are taken. For the Family Champs the top two from a family household are taken.
This year 12 clubs qualify and are in the hunt with at least 3 sailors. Lymington Town is a regular contestant in the Club stakes but this year the incredible home team armada of 33 RS Aeros from Hayling will prove a formidable force.
In the Family Champs 15 teams contest the family title, with Team Ahlheid and Wharmby hedging their bets, both with 3 family competitors! Last year’s champions and runners up teams were both made up of siblings (no parents required!) and both the Hires and Halls return this year to contest the title again.
To equate the three different sized fleets an approximate multiplier will be applied as necessary.

Safety never sleeps and a huge thank you to RS Sailing and Seldén Mast who will kindly be providing a range of ice cool drinks to help incentivise prompt tallying off!
They will be there with a smile at the tally board, ready to listen to your tales of glory and woe, when coming ashore at the end of the day on both Wednesday and Thirsty Thurstday!

RS AERO STICKERS
Sail Colour Flashes - Blue, yellow, pink for 5,7,9. If you still have an older sail without one collect one to stick onto the back of your window. Available from registration, no charge!
Sail Number Trolley Stickers - Make sure your trolley has your sail number clearly visible on the front stalk! We have an excellent Class solution with our own Sail Number Trolley Stickers which are a great way to have a kind someone bring you your trolley promtly. Especially important at 140 RS Aero events or in the winter when the water is cold to stand in! Peel off the segments of the digital 8888 to make your sail number. Available from registration at £4.
*At Hayling we will again use an 'ANY TROLLEY' policy each time we come ashore for ease until the last day when we need to find our own trolleys again. Please always sail back to the area that you launched from and launch from the beach you last recovered from, so that each trolley stays in the same area.
National Sail Flags - Optional at this Championship but they do add a nice splash colour to the pure white RS Aero. Either buy one for the port side or have two back to back. Available from registration at £5 each.

It will be an RS Aero specific intro to championship racing, before putting it all into practice in the RS Aero Challenge Cup the champs series warm race in the afternoon at 15:00.
Turn up to absorb some RS Aero gems before a busy few days afloat racing!

Rooster Nationals Custom Kit
Rooster's range of RS Aero UK National Championship 2021 custom kit is released and available to purchase. There is a nice choice from their Tech Polo, Hoodie, T-Shirt and Long Sleeve UV T-Shirt, all with the UK Nationals logo added to the chest and the large 'RS Aero' logo to the rear. It is a great custom range and will ensure RS Aero sailors will look smart and comfortable ashore, as well as on the water!

LAST CALL for entries and entry payments before the late fee kicks in on Saturday night.
It is fantastic to set a new RS Aero Class record already with over 130 entries, with so many new faces as well as regulars joining the event.
Our usual excellent support from Rooster, Seldén Mast, RS Sailing, Noble Marine and Harken will enable an awesome spread of prizes, daily award ceremonies with Top Tips from the leaders, Wednesday Pre-Training, charter RS Aeros and 'Drinks for Tallies!' for those returning their tallies promptly!
