RS Aero UK Winter Championships at The Oxford Blue

What a fantastic Winter day's sailing!
Winds were light to medium, plenty of opportunity to stretch the legs and glorious sunshine hinted at the first signs of spring!
41 RS Aero were entered and 38 made the start line.
RS Aeros had our own start with over a third of the overall fleet. This provided both a dedicated RS Aero race and the larger 115 boat mixed class Oxford Blue average lap PY timings.
A record Youth turnout featured highly overall!

FORECAST Lots of sunshine, medium/light winds, a mild 8'C in the sun. Perfect for a big days racing in the winter!

Round 6 of the 10 event RS Aero UK Winter Series
Liam Willis won last year in light winds from a whopping fleet of 47 RS Aeros at the tender age of just 16! He then went on to place 2nd at the RS Aero 9 World Champs in Carnac and won the RS Aero 9 fleet at the Lake Garda RS Aerocup. He has signed up to try to defend his title at Oxford again this year.
The 3 race format provides a good day's racing - the perfect spring board from which to launch your new season!
Logistics at Oxford are great for dealing with this number of boats with their large car park and RS Aeros are very easy to wheel up the hill to the slip.Scoring Explained
- The Oxford Blue is scored overall on average lap time PYs with up to 150 dinghies on the score sheet!
- The RS Aero UK Winter Series will take the scores of the RS Aeros in the order they finish overall in the Oxford Blue
- The RS Aero UK Winter Champs will score the RS Aeros using the positions they finish in each race, to achieve a purer overall RS Aero result.

In 2017 we had a tremendous entry of RS Aeros enjoying this event providing great Class racing within the additional mixed fleet overall PY challenge!
The 3 handicap races have matched split starts and average lap racing. Come and join the fleet for some great racing at this very central location to kick off 2018 and get set for the new season!
The Oxford Blue is RS Aero UK Winter Series Round 7 and also forms part of the national SailJuice Winter Series.These popular winter events do get booked up in advance so get your entries in early!
