RS AERO UK NATIONALS - PHOTOS
Many thanks to our photographers at the UK Nationals!

Many thanks to Steve Greenwood and Peter Hickson for going afloat for the 4 races in Saturday's stella conditions. The breeze steadily increased from 7 to 14 knots through the afternoon and followed the sun from 180' to 230' - just like Jim Saltonstall said it would!

Steve took approaching 3000 shots to produce this awesome photo gallery.
They are all high resolution. Steve asks that you please make a suitable donation for any downloads to Bart's Bash via his JustGiving page  .
He can also print A4 or even A3 size, but does make a charge to cover paper and ink (mainly ink).

Peter Hickson is a Hayling Island SC member and also took a great number of wonderful photographs.

LW Media was out in the coach boat during Thurday's increasingly boisterous conditions for the coaching and RS Aero Challenge Cup.

RS Aero UK National Championship and International Open
A nice variety of conditions provided something for every body at this year's UK National Championship.

A final tally of 114 entries gave well over a 50% increase on last year - and just 5 weeks after the World Championship in France with similar numbers!

Thank you to event sponsors Magic Marine, Harken, RS Sailing, Seldén Mast and Hayling Island SC (HISC) for their support, a great selection of prizes, vouchers, entry pack gifts and the ‘drinks for tallies’ initiative!

101!
This is spiralling out of control. Going viral, it will take down the whole internet!
I never doubted we would make the big 100 this year!
Better organise some more prizes....

LAST CALL for the UK NATIONALS - early entry discount ends Sunday.

The 3rd RS Aero UK Nationals is set to be record breaking!
Now with 92 entries so far, we are well ahead of the previous UK Champs - the largest RS Aero bubble on UK soil!
The list includes 6 International Visitors from Estonia, Germany and France adding a nice International flavour to the event.
We now only need another 5 to beat last month's Worlds entry of 96, incredible so soon after!
Will we actually make the big 100? That would be astounding after just 3 years - and we are only 8 away!!!

Hayling Island SC are pulling out all the stops for a fantastic long weekend at their splendid retreat. Opening ceremony on Thursday, live band and Annual Awards dinner on Saturday.

We are blessed with wonderfully generous sponsors. Thank you to them all.
Magic Marine, RS Sailing and Harken will provide a wonderful spread, allowing fun day prizes with top tips from the winners, like at the Worlds.
RS Sailing and Selden Masts will provide 'Slipway Refreshment' on Fri and Sat. A sure way to get your safety Tallies returned promptly!
RS Aero branded cotton gift bags will create your entry packs - with a few complimentary gifts!
With the much larger entry this year the hi-ball glass placings prizes count has increased from 20 to 32!
RS Sailing have provided three wonderful half replica trophies for the three winners and the Freeland family a fabulous Youth Cup after Toby was the inaugural winner.

Sam Whaley, British Sailing Team Laser prodigy and RS Aero 9 UK Youth Champion, will be leading Thursday's coaching, passing on many tricks of the trade.
This will be ashore in the morning, launching after an early lunch and leading straight into the RS Aero Challenge Cup at 15:00.

We are still missing some great sailors, wonderful personalities and valued class enthusiasts off the entry list.
The champs are set to be awesome - but it will be all the better with a few more too!
Remember - if you can not make the whole event then day entry is available! Come for a day or two and be a part of it!

VOLUNTEERS

RIBS If any partner/parent/spectator would like to get afloat in a rib to help add to Hayling's safety boat fleet please contact Leah at HISC on [email protected]

SLIPWAY DRINKS RS Sailing and Selden Masts are kindly providing slipway refreshment 'Drinks for Tallies' after racing. We will have 'RS Sailing's Firsty Friday' followed by 'Selden Saturday'! As we can't guarantee the RS or Selden Sailors will be first back to the beach (!) a couple of volunteers may be necessary to get those balls rolling, handing out drinks next to the tally board, please. Let me know.

88 now! Will this beat the 96 of the World Champs? Will we finally crack the big 100? With one week to go we just might!

84 now!

Early Entry discount ends on Sunday 27th. Please get your entries in ASAP to help the club plan their resource

International Visitors are travelling from Estonia, France and Germany (together with Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight!) which is great.

Club Champs (top 3 sailors from a club) has just got that bit harder with Team Estonia now entered as they are all from the same club at Pirita, Tallinn!
The home team of Hayling Island leads in numbers with a club armada of 12 now signed up.

Drinks for Tallies
After the runaway success at the World Champs, RS Sailing and Selden Masts will kindly once again be providing slipway refreshment 'Drinks for Tallies' after racing at the nationals, ensuring tallies are returned promptly.
Together with Aero offerings from Nestle there should be plenty to fuel those after racing stories!

Accommodation
I have checked with HISC today and they have lots of rooms free on Wed night, some free on Thurs night, one free on Fri night and none on Saturday now.
Similarly with camper van spaces - Wed & Thurs only, could go to a local site after that.
HISC recommend that you keep checking with them, as they will inevitably get some last minute cancelations. HISC also hold a list of local accommodation, contact the office on 02392 463768 or email them on; [email protected] for info.

Since posting about the UK NATIONALS CLUB TEAM CHAMPS six days ago entries have jumped from 60 to nearly 80.
Notably, Team Hayling have strengthened from a team of 5 RS Aeros to a club armada of 11.
However, there is a new challenge on the horizon that will take this 'best 3 boats from one club' challenge to a whole new level.

The clue is in the picture...

FAMILY FORTUNES at the UK NATIONALS at HAYLING
Only 10 days to the 2017 UK Nationals and we already have a record entry of 76 - the largest RS Aero fleet ever assembled in the UK!

The Family Contest will once again be hotly contested with 11 family teams in the miix so far. Combined results of two family members are added to produce family order. Teams span the country with entries from as far afield as the Isle of Man. Yorkshire and Wales.

World Champion Steve Cockerill with Sarah (Stokes Bay) leads the charge in the husband/wife combos from Team Jenkins (Bowmoor) and Team Craven (Yorkshire Dales).

In the parent/sibling duos seasoned campaigners Team Rolfe (Burghfield) will have a battle on their hands from new teams Batchelor (Isle of Man), Hardman (Hayling), Hill (Hayling), Roots (Cardiff), Schofield (Spinnaker). Team Willis (Lymington), with RS Aero 9 Worlds Silver medalist Liam Lightning, once again hedge their bets with a team of three - allowing them the luxury of a discard!

New kids on the block, brothers Sam & Ben Whaley (Swanage) could likely be ones to watch out for. Established British Sailing Team Laser and Radial Sailors and RS Aero 9 UK Youth Champion, they will be passing on to the fleet some of their skills during the Thursday's pre event coaching.

Which family will pull it off? Anymore stepping up to the challenge?

This equals the record from Weymouth in 2015!

UK CLUB TEAM CHAMPS at the NATIONALS
Each Club's best 3 sailors combined results count towards the Club contest. Last year the Lymington Lovelies edged out the might of the Burghfield Bandits to claim the prestigious prize in Torquay.

This year we already have six qualifying clubs with more than 3 entries. Lots more clubs have two entries so far and just need one more to make a team.

The home team of Hayling is leading the charge with 5 entered to date and new challenges are building from Stokes, Yorkshire Dales and the Isle of Man;
5 entries - Hayling Island
4 entries - Stokes Bay, Yorkshire Dales, Lymington Town
3 entries - Isle of Man YC, Burghfield

The Lymington Lovelies, LTSC, winners of the RS Aero UK Club contest in 2016 in Torquay.

The mighty Burghfield Bandits, runners up in the RS Aero UK Club contest at the 2016 Torquay Nationals.

Magic Marine RS Aero UK National Champs and International Open
Hayling Island SC - 31 Aug - 3 Sept
Summer is in full swing and there is just 18 days now to the 3rd RS Aero UK Nationals - Sign up now and join the fun!

This year we visit Hayling Island Sailing Club on the central south coast. HISC is one of the UK's largest RS Aero fleets and both a premier club and sailing venue. This is set to be a fantastic sea championship to follow up last months Worlds.

A great spread of entries sees Youth and Lady categories thriving and as ever the Family (best 2) and Club (best 3) team prizes will be hotly contended. We now also have French, German and Man competitors signed up too!

Sponsors - Once again Magic Marine, RS Sailing, Harken and Selden will be supporting the class providing prizes, goodies and maybe the occasional welcome 'chilled drink beer for tallies' on coming ashore.
Trophies - RS Sailing have donated three wonderful half RS Aero replica trophies for the winner of each fleet. Also an RS Aero Nationals Youth Trophy (U19) has been kindly donated by the Freeland family of Downs SC after Toby Freeland was the first Youth winner in 2015.
Social - Our International Socials Coordination team will be assisting with the Annual Aero Awards Presentation at the Saturday dinner, together with a swish Opening Ceremony in Hayling's lovely Club Bar on Thursday after the 'all Aeros' RS Aero Challenge Cup warm up race.
Trolley ID stickers - Class Supplied trolley identification stickers (with sail numbers) will be mandatory at this event and will be available for the few without them at registration at the class subsidised rate of £2. This fulfils the trolley tag safety requirement of HISC that would have otherwise cost a similar amount for a temporary tag and is therefore a beneficially efficient long lasting solution to owners that also fits our Class sustainability goals.
UK AGM - HISC, Friday 1st Sept, likely 18:00

Accommodation Update
There is a limited amount of accommodation still available at Hayling on Wed, Thurs & Fri nights if you book quickly - call 023 9246 3768.
Whilst there is nothing available on Saturday at least this sorts the first couple of nights - you can then work on the Saturday night later!
HISC recommend that you keep checking with them, as they will inevitably get some last minute cancelations.
HISC also hold a list of local accommodation, contact the office on 02392 463768 or email them on; [email protected] for info.

Hi Peter Coe,
A target time of 40 mins for the leader should see the whole fleet finish within about 50 mins.
As this is only a 3 day champs (plus Thursday's 1 special race) we are planning 4,4,3 races per day.
If there is any delay during a 4 race day it is likely to lose a race and become a 3 race day.
3 race days at Carnac last week meant 4 hours total on the water, shore to shore. So a 4 race day might give about 5 hours on the water.

We are sailing generally around low tide so we will, for the most part, see the tide with us to get in and out of the harbour.

I hope you come and join us! We have a full cross section of ages and abilities. Two discards will provide some ability to miss the last race if you choose.

Hi I am thinking of doing this event.  I am new to the Aero and have competed in different  nationals before.  I am  fit, 60 + years, sail regularly at sea but not sure if I could do 4 races b to b in a day.  Do you have an idea of the length of each race and also the total time for each day on the water.  I love to sail and race and want to enjoy the sailing.  regards
