Great to have Francesco Savelli from Italy's Adriatic coast come to take part in the Steve Nicholson Trophy at Northampton UK recently. He had a great days sailing and we made him feel welcome by giving him an ITA on his sail! We look forward to seeing Francesco again at Lake Garda for the RS Aerocup in October, if not before.

Francesco is pictured here with Northampton's Chris Larr who was top RS Aero from 13 that day.

STEVE NICHOLSON TROPHY - RS AERO PREVIEW
Northampton UK, 28th Jan

13 RS Aeros are signed up for Northampton’s Steve Nicholson Trophy tomorrow in aid of Ashma UK, lining up for two mega yardstick races against a mixed fleet of some 60 other single handers. The form in the RS Aero fleet looks high and any one of a number of our Aerobians could lead take the honours.

The home team of Antony Chunky York and Chris Larr know their lake well. Both are heavy air experts with Chunky hitting an incredible 23.9kn last winter in a ball of Pitsford spray and Chris taking the End of Season Champs when hurricane winds devastated the fleet at Rutland.

Ben Rolfe secured a late entry and will look to recapture the form that won him 2nd at the 2016 RS Aero 9 Europeans and then the win at the Italian Aerocup, again in the big boys rig. Matt Thursfield has had a few months off with a broken foot and comes back fitter and hungrier than ever before to start his 2017 comeback at Northampton.

You are of course only as good as your last race and Peter Chaplin won his last big one, winning from 19 RS Aeros at the Bloody Mary. International competition is flying in from Italy in the form of Francesco Savelli of the Adriatic coast who looks to build on his first RS Aero event at Garda last September whist sampling the crazy English passion with winter sailboat racing.

New kid on the RS Aero block is Tim Fells, stepping up for his first multi RS Aero regatta. Tim was been gaining form in his hidden away training base in the beautiful confines of Salcombe harbour over the past two seasons. Whilst new to the RS Aero Tim is no stranger to the front of top level fleets as a past B14 World Champion and an early leader of the 2015 National Champs in the very competitive Merlin Rocket class.

Martin Hewitt will be showing off his new RS Aero, 2184, representing Nottingham SC on the Trent - the hosts of our 2017 RS Aero River Champs in September. Up from the south coast TeamLymo are fielding Nick Eales and Peter Barton, always good for an outside bet, and from Hayling’s large fleet, hosts of the 2017 UK Nationals, comes Andy Hill. UK Class Chairman, Nigel Rolfe, completes a TeamBurghfield trio.

The forecast looks kind with medium winds, temperatures warmer than earlier this week and news that last weekends ice has now melted!
