I should have said more about the positive side...
Great venue, great time of year, Liked the mix of mass and fleet racing. Perhaps there should be a discard for the handicap results - open meeting would be 2 from 3.

Felt that the 9,7,5 timing worked better - well done for making the change. Perhaps it should be 4 or 5 minutes between. Having the 5's races shortened seemed to make sense but what do the 5's think?  Fewer 9's for the fast 7's to catch and be affected by than a mass of 7's at a leeward mark to hold up 9's. How might it change if/when we get 150 boats rather than 75?

A shore party that tags trolleys would be great so that they get parked in sail number order and can easily be found. (Great idea from another club - on registration they gave out large labels for each trolley and had a small team of Sea Scouts who grabbed and stacked trolleys and brought them back to the waters edge as people arrived back to the shore). That said everyone helped everyone and it seemed to go pretty well.  Could have been more chaotic if there had been a lot of wind in the harbour.

Huge thanks to all who helped get this together and to all the sailors who came and made it such fun.

A huge effort and a huge success - Speaking as a spectator - seeing you all sail in from the Bay with smiles across your faces was immense.

Thank you to all who helped make it happen - competitors included. Jo Richards, RS Concept and sales teams , Peter Barton, the Association and WPNSA have every right to think Job well done today.

The PY racing and then the fleet racing is clearly the way to go - Perhaps we just need to rethink the PY values for the various rigs that we use for Aero events. The only issue is one of the boats making - It appeals to everyone from 12 to 92 (well maybe not) and this brings up a few issues -  The timing of future events - in relation to school terms and exams etc, The youth cannot take time off from schools to fit in events that are held in term times, but the fact that so many youth want to sail with the adults is a testament to the boat, its appeal and ultimately is a great portent of its future.

Thank you all for a great bank holiday.

What feedback does everyone have about the nationals? Any things we should look at changing for next year?

My thoughts...
We were slightly optimistic about the number of races that could be fitted in each day. Yes this IS a national championship, but for many it is also a mass participation event and we need to keep all parts of the fleet in mind. Quicker turn around between races would help, but with the shifting wind I can totally understand why it takes time, maybe the RO could split duties a bit and have someone taking finishes while he concentrates on re-positioning things for the next start.

Courses - what did people think? My feeling was that the trap courses were too narrow. Very hard to roll someone on a very short reach. The reaches were quick so could/should have been slightly longer.  (They're also great fun).  I like the TS it gets decent length reaches. If you lengthen the reaches on the trap you might have too short a run though I always felt time-wise the reaches were very short and the runs plenty long enough (and not just because I fell over on a run). Sometimes sailing in was sometimes a nicer course than the course.

Venue excellent. Was too tired to care much about social events, but that could probably do with some attention as Peter suggested at the AGM.

What does everyone else think?
