Who fancies some of the SAILJUICE big handicap events this Winter? Over recent years this series has gone from strength to strength with a real following. It would be great to show off our class at these big high profile events and have a good presence at each. The following regattas constitute the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series 2014/2015:
• Draycote Dash, Draycote Water SC - Sat 22 & Sun 23 November 2014 [this clashes with our Chelmarsh event]
• Datchet Flyer, Datchet Water SC - Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 Dec 2014
• Brass Monkey, Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club - Saturday 27 December 2014
• Grafham Grand Prix, Grafham Water SC - Sunday 28 December 2014
• Oxford Blue, Oxford Sailing Club - Saturday 3 January 2015
• Bloody Mary, Queen Mary Sailing Club - Saturday 10 January 2015
• Steve Nicholson Trophy, Northampton SC - Saturday 24 January 2015
• John Merricks Tiger Trophy, Rutland SC - Sat 31 Jan & Sun 1 Feb 2015
Entry is now open and they do book up. Full info and entry here .
I think that it would be great to focus as a Class specifically on a few events. We could then turn up in numbers and have some great class racing in addition. My proposal, based on the geography of our fast emerging fleet and favouring the 1-dayers is;
Option 1;
RS Aero Winter Championship; Oxford Blue, Oxford Sailing Club - Saturday 3 January 2015
(good for being 3 races and centrally located)
RS Aero Class Winter Series consisting of the 5 one day events;
• Brass Monkey, Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club - Saturday 27 December 2014
• Grafham Grand Prix, Grafham Water SC - Sunday 28 December 2014
• Oxford Blue, Oxford Sailing Club - Saturday 3 January 2015
• Bloody Mary, Queen Mary Sailing Club - Saturday 10 January 2015
• Steve Nicholson Trophy, Northampton SC - Saturday 24 Jan 2015
Best 2 events (only) to count, of which at least 1 must be either Oxford on 3 Jan or Bloody Mary, QM on 10 Jan.
(easy for everyone to ‘get a series together’ and focuses on key events)
RS Aero results can be split out from the rest of the fleet by Sailracer scoring.
Option 2; a variation on the above.
Please respond to this thread with your thoughts. I will canvas interest and aim to confirm the plan by 24th November.
Don’t be put off at all by the ‘Great Lakes’ handicaps offered. It is flattering that they think we are so quick! At this early stage we have to take this on the chin as a new class until more data is available. In fact, the ‘9’ rig GL number is actually 5 points better off than at the ‘Battle of the Classes’ race and the GL handicaps are generally all a bit lower than PY anyway, especially for the faster boats - so it is all relative. If we all continue to race our boats hard through the winter the three Aero classes will hopefully be given experimental PY numbers (ENs) by the RYA in March.
