Lake Boga YC Easter Regatta - Lake Boga, VIC, Australia, 29th March- 1st April

Thanks to Simon Wilkins for his summary;
Four RS Aeros attended the Easter Regatta at Lake Boga. 3 from Victoria (including the winners of the recent RS Aero VIC States in 7 and 9 rigs) and 1 from South Australia. The small RS Aero fleet was part of a bumper 101 boats attending the regatta in both monohull and catamaran classes. The regatta has been running for many years and is well run by a friendly club with camping available for all on grass next to the lake. Courses were triangle, sausage, triangle and the RS Aeros started with a 145 and with 5 lively 420s. Forecast was light winds and 30-35C sunny days.

Day 1 was hot but no wind unfortunately.
The morning of Day 2 saw light winds but enough to go racing. The wind was patchy and unpredictable. Race 1 saw Simon Wilkins (9 rig) across the line first but pipped by Glenn Collings (7 rig) by 7 seconds on corrected time. Race 2 followed shortly after in the same conditions with Simon finishing first but the race was taken by Steve Thomas (7 rig) ahead of Glenn with Simon 3rd on yardstick.

Race 3 in the hot afternoon of Day 2 started with some wind but this dropped off down to a drifter and then picked up slightly on the last triangle resulting in around 30-40 boats arriving at the wing mark at the same time just after Glenn and Simon had gybed. Glenn won that race, Steve 2nd and Brendan Chaplin 3rd (7 rig).

On Day 3, Race 4 had a little more wind which was quite shifty. The line was very pin end biased and Simon and Glen headed left. The first triangle saw some very close racing between Glenn and Simon. Simon pulled away on the second beat and took out the win with Glenn in 2nd. The wind dropped off again and no racing was possible in the afternoon.

Finally Day 4 saw a slightly earlier start and some actual breeze to work with. The first part of the beat saw Glenn and Steve finding more wind than Simon until he headed left and found more breeze and a great lift to the first mark. The second beat saw Glenn close back up on Simon by going further left as the wind was shifting. Simon banged left on the third beat and was lifted all the way to the windward mark and held off downwind to take the win with Glenn 2nd and Steve 3rd.

Some great racing between us and another thoroughly enjoyable Lake Boga regatta! Well done to Glenn for winning the regatta!
