RS Aero Scottish Circuit Round 2 - Loch Lomond Sailing Club, 2/3rd September

Thanks to Isabelle Martin for her report;
8 RS Aeros gathered together from Loch Lomond Sailing Club, East Lothian Yacht Club and Dalgety Bay Sailing Club for the second round of the inaugural RS Aero Scottish Circuit.  The regatta had 75 boats from a wide ranges of classes celebrating LLSC’s 150 year!

The wind initially was somewhat light so we were all held ashore and then just after the announcement of the opening of the bar, the wind arrived.  The postponement came down at 15:20 and racing started around 15:50.  The race officer managed 3 very well managed races with the last race of the day starting just after 18:00!

The wind for the first day was light with Peter Taylor (DBSC) taking first place in all of races in his RS Aero 7, Sandy Day (LLSC) and John Wilcox (ELYC) close behind.  The smaller rigs suffered in the predominantly windward leeward courses on day 1.  Fortunately at the end of day 1 racing (almost 19:00hrs), the bar was still open and fully stocked.

Day 2 arrived with much more breeze (up to approx 15 knots at times). John McGruer (LLSC) who was trying an RS Aero 6 rig for the first time on loan from Sailingfast took 1st place in the first race of the day.  The breeze steadily built with Peter Taylor taking first place in the remaining 2 races.  The smaller rigs had a better day in the stronger breeze but still suffered a bit on the long downwind legs when the breeze lightened at times.  The RS Aero 7 sailors had a few spectacular capsizes in the stronger breeze.

Overall first went to Peter Taylor, with 5 first places and 1 second, second place was John Wilcox, and third John McGruer

It was a very enjoyable weekend on ‘the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond’ with very slick race management from a very professional club.  The scenery was spectacular, as was the weather!  We hope to return next year.

Next event is the Scottish Nationals at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club on 7/8th October.  Entry is now open.  It is also the final event in the Scottish RS Aero Circuit.  Peter Taylor is currently leading with a 2 and 1 place and John Wilcox in second place with 3 and 2 in the two events so far
