Home >> Technical >> second hand 9 mast base wont fit into original top
Hi Ed,
Sorry to hear of your trouble. It ought to be a tight fit, but reasonably easy to slot together if clean and straight.

1) rinse it clean of salt, grit and sand.
2) Ensure it is perfectly straight, this is critical (lying it down on the boat is a good gauge)
3) Use a dry lubricant (McLube or SpeedSix's dry lube)
4) If necessary, contact RS Sailing Customer Support; [email protected]

(don't use a wet grease that might attract dirt build up)

Hi, just some advice please if you are willing...;)

I bought a 9 rig (sail and mast base) to swap about with my original 7 mast, and I cant get them to go together for love nor money. Goes an inch or so then binds. I haven't applied brute force yet because i have to get it undone also. Wondered if anyone else had the same problem ever or had some tips for me? Grease from the bike that's suitable for carbon surfaces?? (seems potentially messy though). And how do you get it apart if it binds together? Cheers, Ed
