Things I have learned from the beach whilst rigging....
For vertical creases
1) let off downhaul - Horizontal (speed) creases OK
2) Slacken tack strop (if yours is adjustable)
3) Bungee return on the downhaul block - A bit of bungee around the gooseneck tied to the downhaul block returning it up to a loose position when let off downhaul.
4) new sails have a bungee luff cord - also lessens luff tension
5) time - as the sail stretched the vertical creases become less of an issue (this should be number 1) really)
6) if you can be *rsed - adjust tension of the top two battes - can pull the sail out - But a hassel and I never really got the balance between no crease and ability to flop batten through with tacking in light airs

For outhaul

Harken Mclube

Bungee return along boom - Like other classes that use strop around the boom clews - eg Laser,Tera - Pulls the clew back along the boom when let the outhaul off.

outhaul strop tension and friction is worse with Kicker on - So adjust when kicker loosened

Kicker first, Then downhaul. You need the basic mast bend for the kicker then haul the downhaul on if you are still overpowered. If you're getting vertical creases you have too much downhaul compared to kicker. Outhaul will not solve that - it only affects the draft in the middle of the sail low down.

Outhaul works well if you adjust before putting on kicker (or after easing kicker from beating position on a reach), also make sure the clew strop isn't too tight round the boom.

I have read that when flattening the sail the Cunningham can be as effective as the vang. However when I do this I'm left with vertical wrinkles behind the mast. The solution should be go apply more outhaul and here is the point of my post. I find the strop does not slide on the boom and so both increasing and decreasing outhaul have little effect. Has anyone else had problems with this?
