Very acute observation. I found the boat wanting to fall over more when launching last week and had not corrolated it with the JC but I think you are spot on. Suggest leaving one side off with a thin line attached so you can pull it back and clip on once sailing. Haven't tried this but I will tonight and report back. Might be possible to clip the ends loosely to control lines while launching and then tension onto the boom once out.

Instability launching or recovering is my biggest hassle. Once on trolley it's fine.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a very light wind for our Wednesday evening racing in Torbay, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try out the JC strap. I rigged it as shown in the guide. When I put the boat in the water of the trolley it promptly capsized. I righted it several times, but each time it 'fell over' again. It seemed as if the JC strap holding the boom out to the side was unbalancing it. I hadn't experienced this before, so eventually I disconnected the JC strap and got away. Didn't fancy lying around on the foredeck to try and rig it on the water, so left it loose. I guess it might be possible to counter the strap with the mainsheet at launching time, but this would require some coordination!

Anyone else had any experience with the JC strap?
