Home >> Technical >> Continuous control line length if splicing
Thanks for that very helpful reply.
Rooster customer service were also helpful and said that in their kit "The Blue/White Rooster Easysplice is 8m long and the Black/White is 6m long".
So it looks as if I need a 6m and an 8m rope.

Hi jdwoods,

I was in the same position... my first time splicing modern ropes.  I bought the Rooster Stater Splicing Kit which comes with some Rooster easy splice rope to practice with.  This gave me the confidence to try it on the boat lines.

I spliced the lines that came with the boat.   I was able to open up 3 of the 4 eye splices by removing the little black stitches that hold the spliced end in place.  I could not get the last one open so cut the line.  When spliced the lines all seem an ok length.

I did have a problem using the Rooster Starter Kit Fids.  The smaller tubular fid was too big to get though the line on the boat and the hole in the end of the needle fid was too small to get the line end through.  In hindsight and from wantching more splicing videos I think I should have feathered the end so there were few enough strands to get through the needle eye.  Another club member came to the rescue, loaning me their needle fid which did the job easily.  I have since bought the needle part of the need fid which is less than a fiver and made my own handle for it.

Hi,
I wanted to set up spliced continuous control lines. I already have over deck controls but from RS so joined by twine rather than a splice. I'm a beginner at the continuous control line splice but video's by Steve on the Rooster website make it look strainght forward. Does anyone know what length of rope is required? I'd be doing a continuous splice over deck control set up for both out & down haul. Appreciate I could measure the current rope but I'm not with the boat.
Pro's and con's of splicing vs a join with twine?
Thanks
