TopTips2020 #2 - Keep a Sailing Journal
by Marc Jacobi, USA

Two times RS Aero 9 World Champion Marc Jacobi of Cedar Point YC, Connecticut, USA, is both experienced and analytical, but to convert that into race gains over time he recommends always writing down the lessons learned after every sail;

'Each time after sailing, spend a few minutes to write about the session in a journal. Where/What conditions were like, who you sailed with, how you felt, what went well, what needs improvement, any boat issues, goals for next time. Strongly recommend hand-writing this (burns it into the brain better), keeping entries in a binder and adding copies of useful articles as well.

Blank form attached, as well as one day's notes from several decades ago - the first time I ever sailed wearing Lycra! :) '
