I switched to Aero from Solo when the Aero came out. (Having previously sailed two ma trapeze boats.) Solos are lovely boats and if you aren't nimble enough for an Aero they are perfect, but they are heavy to launch and recover. If you have a shallow ramp/waters edge that helps. Solos have a great circuot and remain popular because they are a lovely boat to sail, easy to sail, hard to get the best out of, but I switched to Aero because... The speed of acceleration and thrill of a fast recah is superb, the carbon mast's gust responce is excellent, the choice of rig allows for all conditions, pulling boat out at the end of the day is a breeze, the rudder is so resposive and we've quickly established as good a racing circuit. Quite simply I have more fun in the Aero but I still have a soft spot for the Solo.
