Home >> General Discussion >> Winter Glove Recommendations?
I have tried Gill and Musto winter gloves with some success at keeping my hands warm enough, but find they wear out too quickly for my liking considering the cost. Secret Santa just supplied Gul Powergloves which I am yet to try out.

Hi guys - some excellent advice here - but I have to say that Rooster Combi Glove is a breakthrough.  We combined the windchill protection of Aquafleece with the insulation of neoprene.  There is even a nice tuck away mitt in Aquafleece® that covers your fingers when required.  I am currently cutting the thumb and forefinger off so I can still feel the ropes easily.   At the slipper shiver at the weekend, a well kitted out dog walker passed by saying - too cold for me.  I had been racing for 90 mins and was packing away -  I challenged him and said "its fine with the right gear" - in fact I said, I bet my hands were warmer than his.   We shook hands and mine were roasting compared to his.  I wondered to myself what I had proved, but then I am a little odd.

Hi, the Rooster Aquapro gloves work for me in the frozen north (Central Scotland). I suffer from very cold hands to the extent that I am reduced to wearing mitts when skiing, however the Rooster Aquapro ones work for sailing whether my hands are wet or dry.  They even work on those really cold days when I have been seen sailing with a friend on the foredeck - a snowman.  The snowman also makes you keep the boat very flat otherwise he would slide off!

Someone recommended these waterproof construction gloves to me, and I find they work pretty well. You could also buy a larger size and use glove liners, though I haven’t felt the need:

I was a subscriber to the rooster hot hands idea and I tried latex gloves in the past however when they got water inside them they just became cold to me. Last season I tried marigold washing gloves from recommendations of a few friends and if you get the thick ones and wear them so the wetsuit/drysuit covers the sleeve of the glove they work well in keeping water out and your hands warm. The thicker they are the less likely they are to being ripped while sailing and they cost a fraction of what any branded sailing gloves do while doing as good a job if not better.

Hi, This is a situation I'm very familiar with having suffered the same for a number of years! The breakthrough for me was actually when my son got involved with the Topper zone squad a few years ago and one of the parents introduced us to the benefits of wearing a pair of thin latex gloves (the sort you can buy at a supermarket, DIY store etc) underneath whatever gloves you prefer (I use Rooster Aquapro). They make a massive difference (at least to me) and keep my hands warm through the cold Pennine winters. Good luck in finding something that works for you. Regards Phil

Can i suggest moving to Australia for the English winter, a lot warmer and you won't need to worry about winter gloves.🤔 Tijuana Taxi.

Would members like to share their recommendations for winter gloves? Probably like many, I have a quiver of gloves and still haven't discovered the sweet spot for winter gloves.

I'm looking for something that is warm when wet or dry, allows me to sail without ever needing to remove them for something that's a bit fiddly, easy to take on and off (including when damp) and quick drying.

That's all I'm looking for!

Real-life experience appreciated over marketing hype!

And a happy 2020 to all!
