I can confirm this was great fun! I agree with Peter’s comment on sliding around. Bottom of cockpit very slippy, side decks less of an issue. The biggest concern for me was the icing up of the main sheet which eventually went like cardboard and it was difficult to let out whilst bearing away. Not a particular problem for slight adjustments whilst beating. T

Undeterred by the cold, Wednesday morning racing continued at Broadwater Sailing Club yesterday. Yes, there was snow in the boat park, part of the fresh water lake was frozen and the air temperature was definitely below freezing, but 7 boats including two Aero 7s plus a safety boat turned out. I can report that the Aero sails as well as expected in these conditions. The light weight was an advantage when moving the trolley around in the snow. My mast pot had drained properly and was not frozen, but the fur on the dagger board slot was more proplenatic and necessitated a little wiggling. Blocks, sheets and control lines all worked well initially and the under deck controls continued to work throughout the session although the more absorbent main sheet became problematic once the snow moistened it and it started to stiffen. For me, however, the limiting factor was the lack of traction between my feet and the cockpit floor when the ice startd to build. Now I appreciate why RS fit such abrasive anti slip! Lots of lessons learned and a good, safe time was had by all, including our safety officer who took some excellent pictures. If you can get away on a Wednesday morning in the winter, why not come and join us?
