Lymington RS Aero Autumn Coaching Afternoon - Sat 4th Nov

Twelve RS Aeros met after lunch for a half hour coaching talk before a 14:30 launch in time to have a good sail before early dark.

Five more RS Aero sailors manned the coach boats and the fleet was fortunate to have 2 RS Aero UK Champions, an RS Aerocup Garda champion and a Mini Transat sailor (just in case Ken joined us from Highcliffe and needed ideas for his next venture!). These dedicated half yearly club sessions are vital for assisting those new to the Class, looking to start club racing and right up to those hoping to raise their game on the circuit.

An across tide wind and medium breeze led to challenging start lines and tricky layline judgements.Leading the RS Aero 7s were Karl Thorne, Chloe Martin and Nigel Rolfe, whilst Emma McEwen, Julie Willis and Jenny Bennett battled it out at the front of the RS Aero 5s.The final pursuit race home up the river at low tide saw Emma McEwen's 5 just pip Chloe Martin's 7.

Key lessons in the patchy offshore breeze were;
-the importance of dynamism of movement and
-changing gear in the gusts and lulls. Pull your controls to de-power when necessary but be sure to let them off again when you are de-powered in a lull.

A cosy club bar debrief followed by extended debrief in town later!

Thanks to Liam Willis, Keith Willis, David Ellis and Peter Barton for the coaching.
