Thanks everyone. Neil, I've ordered the musto pads... will try once my knees heal. No pun intended. I may look at some of the pant-based options for the fall.

I use a SEA 3/4 hiker pant with battens, also wear it on the VX One, Laser and Sunfish, and it is the best of both worlds.

Here: Sea Hiking pants they have padding on the knees and work great for hiking.

Some people also very lightly smooth the non-slip to make it marginally less abrasive. Very light sand with something like 400 grade paper will keep the non-slip but reduce abrasion if you have a particularly sharp patch.

Gill knee pads. West Marine sell them in the US, they also sell another higher tech version but can't remember the manufacturer. Some hikers extend to knee pads.

Jeff:
In Florida I use lightweight river pants with extra reinforcement on the seat and knees made by Outaware in Bozeman, MT. These are custom made to your specifications and have eliminated all my bleeding. They are not hot and dry quickly. Contact Andrew at outaware.com. 406-285-3080.

Musto makes a really durable knee pad I wear them they are comfortable the plastic insert is the same material used in military flack vests. It actually goes rigid under impact and instantly returns to flexible after impact.

Hi all, I'm new to dingy sailing and need some advice: on hot days, what do you wear to protect your knees? A day of scrambling around on deck has donated lots of knee skin to the sailing gods. My full wet suit has knee pads built in, but I'll cook in it. Any advice is appreciated.
