Home >> General Discussion >> Hi from Lyme Regis!

Ahhhhh Little did I know I would stir up such a maelstrom when I posted my sweet, innocent photo introduction to Lyme Regis!!

So I had better come clean about the trailers. Maggie's boat 1296, new boat so has the revised design of launching trolley, so longer handle and longer gunwhale supports, all no problem.

My boat, 1070, when collected had original trolley design. HOWEVER as I drove my beautiful new boat home from RS, I thought a front wheel had dropped off my BMW as I was experiencing severe vibration in the steering - found to be caused by the road base trailer. On getting the boat home I found the launching trolley did not lock into the road base and in fact jammed well before it reached the securing pin on the front and also the road base roller was so badly fitted it didn't go round. So boat fantastic but trailers rubbish. Having bought four new various boats from RS with no problems, I went straight back to RS and , shall we say, expressed my concern! To cut a longer story short, they replaced both the road base and the launching trolley hence the new design on the relatively older boat.

There that's got that off my chest and RS will probably never speak to me again! I think this "handles" issue is a serious trailer design fault and the trailer supplier should supply a retrofit in the same way there has been a very good kit supplied by RS for holding on the base plug on the mast!

That's it must get back to jet washing the patio!! Best wishes to all Vic Simpson

Given the sail numbers that are being mentioned as having the shorter Mk 1 trolleys, & the problems this causes it would seem that either some kind of retrofit kit would be in order, or the facility to exchange trolleys?

I like the sound of Haimark's solution, can you publish or send plans, details?

I'm 5ft 6 by the way, & I have to stoop to move my boat; even grounded the stern coming out of RS's Romsey premises!!

I have the same problem with my Aero 1170 I like Haimark's idea, but don't have the facilities to do it.

I have machined some stainless steel trolley lifters that move the axle stubs back and down 200mm...they just bolt to the trolley just behind the existing axle...lifts the transom beautifully and still fits onto the combo trailer.

I have Aero 1179, and I have the mk1 trolley, which has me bumping the transom on the ground if I stand up straight, even with the handle held as low as I can, while still standing straight. (I'm 6'3") I've thought of lengthening the upright piece that the bow chock and handle are attached to, but I'd be interested to know what others of you might have done.

Yes we all have up to about aero 1183...the mark two trolley has a longer wheelbase and longer arms. Those with the Mark one trolley either have to walk around with a bent back our make a modification to their trolley. There are some cheap mods around.

These 2 boats launch trolleys seem to have longer gunwhale supports than mine, 1141!!

Their sterns are well clear of the concrete ramp, and look as if they'd still be well clear when the trolleys are picked up for moving.

Has anyone else got a shorter gunwhale strut launch trolley?

Just a quick note to say Hi from our fleet of two at Lyme Regis Sailing Club! However we are hoping to win over the hearts and minds of all our Laser sailors when they see the fun they are missing. We have a fantastic harbour launch area with access to, first sheltered waters then the real thing, the sea. So if you fancy a visit you would be very welcome. We held the Laser Nationals in 2013 for 120 boats, so would love to do the same for the Aero. Best wishes Vic Simpson and Maggie Dunn
