Hello,
Yesterday I sailed my first "Wednesday" regatta (yardstick) with my Aero. I've done this several times in the last few years with an H-boat and was usually in the middle of the field.
The field of participants yesterday consisted of about 70 boats. Most of them dragons and H-boats. Many J70s, some Melges 20 and 24 as well as skerry cruisers and a few Stare. Also 4 Lasers and a Finn. Actually, it doesn't make much sense to compete with such big boats with an Aero, as I was constantly in cover and downwind of the big ones. But even against the slower Finn and the Lasers, I didn't look good (at the end, I had only boat behind me). I recorded the course I sailed (see picture). I sailed in 2-3 bft with the 9 sail. So it was actually ideal. Can you give me an opinion on whether the course (2.5 laps, finish was at the windward mark (top right)) is ok for an aero (tacking angle, too many tacks etc. (distance between start line and windward mark approx. 600 meters).
I tried to implement the usual tips such as keeping the boat flat, sitting at the front etc., but they didn´t work very well in gusts of 3 bft.
