Thanks for the question. We have discussed this. I am sorry but this is not permitted. Allowing the use of Mylar strip or other materials would open up the possibility of abuse. If you are worried about wear then please use the retrofit deck ring. I have found that as long as you wash the mast and step regularly and avoid sand getting on them, then the wear is not bad.
