This weekend SLYC hosted the Irish RS Northern Championship with RS Aeros, RS400s and RS200s together, and what a weekend it was!
Friday night club racing saw a few visiting RS400s and RS Aeros join the action, followed by lively entertainment with live music and a popular tapas van.
Saturday brought glorious sunshine but very light winds, with just one race completed before conditions glassed off. Sailors made the most of the shore time, enjoying the excellent hospitality from the SLYC Catering team. A superb dinner was served in the clubhouse, with a late license keeping the most dedicated competitors going well into the night.
On Sunday, racing was moved an hour earlier, and despite a slow start, the breeze filled in beautifully, allowing the completion of a total of four races over the weekend.
The RS Aero fleet raced on PY with corrected time scoring with RS Aero 6, RS Aero 7 and RS Aero 9 rigs all represented, thereby opening the class up to sailors of different sizes.
Howth Yacht Club's Daragh Sheridan picked up the overall victory, but like in the RS200 fleet, second placed Noel Butler only lost out on the win due to countback. Meanwhile, Sarah Dwyer from the Royal St George Yacht Club finished third overall and First Lady.
A huge thanks to all the volunteers who made the event a success!
