Oxford Sailing Club hosted the last of nine events in this season’s Selden Sailjuice Winter Series, the Oxford Blue, which doubled as the RS Aero UK Winter Championships. The breeze in Oxford started out at 8 knots for the first race but dropped throughout the afternoon, although all three races were completed as scheduled. It was cold with temps of 3'C, and a light rain also coming down at that temp giving a chill....but spring is now just around the corner!
7 RS Aeros competed, nearly 10% of the 80 mixed class boats taking part. The RS Aero UK Winter Champs is scored with all the RS Aeros together on PY using the extracted RS Aero positions they finish in each race amongst just the RS Aeros, to achieve a purer overall RS Aero result.
Winner of the RS Aero winter champs was series sponsor Steve Norbury (Warsash, RS Aero 7) of Selden, counting a 2,1 amongst the RS Aeros. Peter Barton (Lymington Town, RS Aero 7) counted 1,3, to take 2nd on a tie break from Clive Jackson (Dorchester on Thames SC, RS Aero 7) in 3rd counting 2,2. Top RS Aero 6 was Andy Hill (Warsash) who was top RS Aero in Race 2. Top RS Aero 5 and top Female was Evelyn Tinker (Papercourt).
Unfortunately this time the RS Aeros did not make a mark on the overall leader board with Peter Barton top RS Aero in the overall standings down in 26th.
Congratulations to the overall winners;
1st - Matthew Wolstenholme and Lloyd Roberts, Snipe
2nd - Megan Pascoe, 2.4mR
3rd - Jasper Barnham and Graham Sexton, GP14
3 races, 1 discard
