Japanese RS Winter Championship at the Miho Midwinter Regatta
Shimizu Port, Japan, 11/12 Jan
The Japanese RS Winter Championship took place within the Miho Midwinter Regatta on 11/12th January at Miho Bay, Shimizu Port with the cooperation of the Shimizu Port Yacht Association. This is a dinghy race that has been held for over 20 years, with 24 mixed class boats participating using the Shimizu Port Yacht Association's unique yardstick number system. Any type of dinghy is allowed. The fun of Miho Midwinter is that everyone from junior and senior high school students to veterans can race together. It's a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a yacht race after the New Year.
The regatta enjoyed mild winter temperatures, sunshine and gentle breezes under the wonderful backdrop of Mount Fuji. Racing took place straight off the beach, with the peninsula providing protection rom the Pacific Ocean (Suruga Bay).
Four RS Aeros and an RS500 joined the event with six races held over the two days. Congratulations to Kazuyoshi Nakao (RS Aero 7) who came in second behind the winner, Kaneda Hirotaka (Sea Hopper).
