RS Aero Western Australia State Championship - Fremantle, WA, Australia, 30 Nov - 1 Dec 2024

What a weekend it was for the 3rd RS Aero Western Australia State Championship at East Fremantle Yacht Club. 12 RS Aeros sailed 8 races over 2 days (5 races on Saturday and 3 on Sunday). It was exhausting, but seriously fun, rewarding and challenging. The conditions were light, shifty and tricky, which made for exciting and very close racing.
Congratulations to Peter Trott from Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club who convincingly won the title, for the second consecutive year! EFYC’s Jordy Bellegarde sailed amazingly to take out second place (and the youth male trophy), and Nat Cull, also from MOFSC, took out 3rd place. Congratulations to Billie McCracken who also sailed extremely well, finishing in 6th place and taking out the youth female trophy. Well done Billie! Great to see Glenn Fairey from Nedlands Yacht Club race on Solitude (thank you Tim Putt).

It took me all of Saturday to get my mojo, so my results were pretty dismal (though I raced OK on Sunday, on the 5 rig). For me, it was a huge thrill to see such great growth in the RS Aero fleet, and to see Jordy and Billie blitzing it!
Thank you to David Quinn for everything he did to make the weekend such a success, to all of the volunteers, especially Helen Suriano, Margaret Shiner and Andrew Cliff, without whom the event would not have happened. Thank you all! I love sailing HabanAero!
