Thanks to visiting RS Aero sailor, Roy van Maanen of Ireland, for his report;
Earlier in the year I was talking to Juliane Barthel (honestly no beer was involved) and she told me about this event and that the German RS Aero Class Association had a boat that was available.
Fast forward 6 months and I found myself at the Baltische SV in Steinhude with a fully sorted boat (it even had a compass!) kindly brought to the event by Michael Heber. The sailing club is a fabulous building on a large site (most competitors stayed in camper vans) in the middle of a forest and as well as full catering facilities and a bar it even has a library. The club were fantastic hosts (they even provided an Irish flag for the occasion) with free food and beer after racing and laid on a fabulous meal on Saturday evening.
Despite shifty conditions on Saturday the race committee provided impeccable race organisation with square starts and true beats. There was minimal waiting between starts with the races being turned around quickly. Sunday dawned with lots of wind and gale force gusts. Racing was quickly abandoned with the prize-giving brought forward so that people could get away early.
The racing was dominated by Marcus Walther who won all 4 races. Despite being challenged by Juliane he managed to stay ahead in each of the races. Behind the leading two there was good racing between Roy (despite a capsize when leading the last race), Michael, Jan-Wessel, Jorn and Jona.
Thanks to Baltische SV for a super event.
