Space Coast Invitational Regatta - Indian River YC, Kelly Park, Merritt Island, FL, USA, April 22/23
The RS Aero Class was invited again to join in the 2023 Space Coast Invitational Regatta hosted by the Indian River Yacht Club at Kelly Park. It is a multi class event a nice opportunity for the RS Aero fleet to enjoy some fun and sun, racing on the Banana River! Nice beach to launch from, plenty of parking, nice open sailing area and low motor boat traffic.

While only four of us in RS Aeros, Tony, Jacques, Terry, and me, made it to Kelly Park, we had a fabulous day of tight racing in winds that built from 8-10 knots to 15-18 or so. Three well run races by IRYC on the trapezoid course with a w/l on the wing. It was a blast and after three races we all were spent as races about 40-45mins long and demanding as the winds built!
Overnight a front moved through and it was blustery and cool as Jacques, Tony and I went out to finish the regatta after a delightful Saturday evening dinner at Dolphins. Shifty, gusty northerly winds around 18 knots with some higher gusts made for tough racing. Jacques continued to set the pace with straight bullets for two days. Tony and I duked it out with me finishing second overall and Tony only a point behind. We all agreed that Kelly Park is such a great place to race and it was again this weekend!
