Write-Up

Hamburg Championship - Blankeneser SC, Elbe, Hamburg, Germany, 15/16 April
The second main German RS Aero regatta of 2023 took place in Hamburg at Blankeneser SC on the river Elbe.

Thanks the Marcus Walthur for his report;
It was a long journey from southern Hesse to sail as a southern Hesse in the right conditions and what can I say, the requirements were a challenge in every respect. The wind was just as fluctuating as the water level and the showers were also a challenge, even though the water temperature was absolutely constant here. I was already slightly disoriented when I arrived, because my navigation system didn't recognize the blocked Elbchaussee as blocked and consequently wanted to send me back to it again and again. This was, as it turned out later, a first shallow indication of my perspective on the regatta course. One thing was completely foreign to the insiders Christian and Julius and the other was completely clear and this is what the interim result looked like after 3 races. Christian was only able to prevent Nana's victory in the third race due to the fact that the course was just a bit too long, so that she was caught just before the finish. Juliane followed in third place after day one.

Actually, we don't sail in a north wind, Christian gave me an insider tip during the cozy get-together in the village linden tree in the evening, after a refreshing cold shower in the clubhouse. An plan was announced for the next day, but the forecast did not give much hope, as less wind was forecast than the day before. The locals followed suit. The fact that they were wrong on this point gave me hope that this misjudgment was not only related to the wind force, but would also be reflected in their performance on the water. With a pleasant hanging wind, I went to the first cross and finally I had a clear view of Blankenese. Unfortunately as the wind picked up the water levels were decreasing, you can't have everything, so it got more and more tricky. Nevertheless, I was able to do damage limitation with places 2,1,3 and was able to improve to place 3.

Oh yes, before I forget to mention, according to the KV statutes, the third-place finisher in a regatta is allowed to write a report. Victory went to Andreas Pedersen of Ega Sejklub, Denmark ,and Julius Hornung (NRV) took second place.

Then it only remains for me to mention that the next regatta will take place on April 29th and 30th, 2023, at the Sorpe. Here is the link:  https://manage2sail.com/en-US/event/ASC2023#!/
