Sechs-Seen-Platte - Duisburg SC, Germany, 1/2 April
Invitation by Michael Heber in Duisburg for the first German West Region regatta of 2023

Report thanks to Marcus Walther;
The weather was, as it should be for April, mixed and so it was nice that 10 RS Aeros and three RS Teras came together to sail the first regatta of the West Region in 2023. Wind was announced and so I made my way from southern Hesse to Duisburg to the Six Lakes Plateau with the newly converted trailer.

I was able to win the arrival race ahead of Juliane, even if only just. So my new boat seemed to be running. After the moon had risen in full splendor in the Salvatorkirche in Duisburg despite the rain and had been admired by us, we went to the Italian restaurant to eat and chat.

The next day didn't bring any significant changes in terms of the weather, so around 1:30 p.m. we went on the water for the first race. While the rain was somewhat consistent, both in intensity and direction, the wind made things a little more challenging, both in strength and direction. Better training in terms of boat handling is hardly possible, and the motivation to come to terms with unpleasant conditions has also been trained.

In the second run, I at least had the impression that the wind was a little more cooperative, both in terms of wind strength and the fact that the wind began to at least roughly agree on one direction. Nevertheless, it was always possible to improve or deteriorate by a number of places. The third run then had the most pleasant wind, so now only the rain disturbed. After three sailed races, it was time to take a warm shower and dry off, before moving on to the leisurely part.

After a rainy night, Sunday was dry and cold, but with a bit more wind. At 10:30 a.m. we were back on the water. Christian, not quite awake yet, used the opportunity on the downwind approach to the start to refresh the necessary concentration by taking a bath for the final two runs, in the truest sense of the word, which he also managed to do. The wind had turned 180° overnight. The fine tuning still left a lot to be desired, so the final two races were again a challenge.

After 5 sailed races and one cancellation, Marcus was able to prevail in front of Juliane and Michael. Mirco Hepp, who sailed the Class owner RS Aero, was able to take 4th place at his aero premiere.

A thank you goes to the organizing club, as well as to the race committee, who did a pleasantly calm job and also defied the adverse conditions, especially on Saturday, as well as to the catering crew. Thank you, thank you to all those who made the regatta possible.

The main regatta of the central region takes place on the Easter weekend and registration is still possible for last-minute participants.

Einladung zu Michael Heber nach Duisburg zur Premierenranglistenregatta am 1./2.4.2023
Ein Beitrag von Marcus Walther;

Mein neues Boot schien also zu laufen.
