RS Aero La Parisienne - CV Moisson Lavacourt, Moisson, France, 18/19th March
A great start to the season for the French RS Aeros!

That's it, the RS Aero France group has started the season with a bang, and 10 boats met at the CVML on the 18/19th March, under a cloudy sky but in a great atmosphere! The event was organised by the Moisson club on the Parisian waterway - a former quarry on a loop of the Seine - in conjunction with the Ile de loisirs leisure center, which offered great logistics and super-equipped accommodation.
From Friday evening, under storms and heavy rain, 5 boats were on site: Tim Stroobandt with his son Kobe and Joppe Pattyn, who came by camper van from Belgium (Antwerp - 6 hours drive!), Anthony Thépot from SNL - Voile Légère ! Antoine Lasquellec, the local of the stage, Mister "welcome", and myself who arrived from Club Nautique de Wimereux. Welcomed as it should be by the friend Antoine, at the corner of the fireplace of the Club House, we quickly meet around a very good meal in a restaurant nearby. It was nice to meet Anthony and Antoine over a nice steak and a few beers...
The next day, after a comfortable night and a breakfast under a beautiful light (we are close to Giverny-Village dear to Monet), we meet at the Club to quickly get into shape and into the water. The sky is uncertain and the wind is already blowing right in the axis of the water, it accelerates and turns quite a bit. 18 to 20 knots, it will be tonic and fresh...
Indeed, we are immediately in the bath... We take a little time to find our reflexes and to commit ourselves sufficiently, physical beats, some power jibes, and a few baths to really start the season and to get up-to-speed. Our Belgian friends are in RS Aero 5 and seem to be doing well. Anthony is also in RS Aero 5 and plays the equilibrist. I'm in RS Aero 7 and I'm playing it smart downwind but I quickly put my suit and my supposedly waterproof socks to the test... The weekend is going to be very sporty!
We finally gather on the shore and meet the other RS Aeros who have arrived in the meantime: Benoit Cailleux who was finally able to be there, Christophe Darras and Serge Motet, the two other Parisians, and the "Experts" Ludo and Benoît Radier who arrived with their van and their double trailer from Port-Blanc - Penvenan. Well done to all and thank you for making the journey to support this 1st Parisian gathering!
The briefing announced that we would be the last of the 4 fleets to start, after the Weta, the 470s - who race in grade 4 for their famous Claudia Cup -, and the 5o5/Fireball interseries. In all, nearly 40 boats for which the committee will launch 39 procedures over the weekend with great agility and efficiency - thanks to him/her! We are also informed that we will be racing on a simple trapeze with a 5th buoy and finish, whereas the others are sailing with an inner or outer loop as well: obviously the committee doesn't seem to know the speed of the RS Aero and is concerned that we don't slow down the pace of the procedures... We will be racing different rigs in real time because our series had not been registered in mixed fleet at the start; on a windy weekend as announced, this seems acceptable to us.
First signal at 13:30 and we still have time before our start. But it is at this moment, under a very dark sky, under the rain and strong gusts, that the fleet disperses and suffers...So only 5 boats will take the first start: Kobe and Joppe in RS Aero 5, Ludo, Benoît Radier and me in RS Aero 7.
On such a short course, a bad start is fatal... The wind is in the middle, the options are not numerous. In this game, it's Ludo who wins: without missing a start, he fights like crazy and doesn't let go. He won the first and last round. Benoît, as usual, is softer, more precise, and takes particular care of the glide, he wins the 2 following heats when Ludo makes 2nd. I have the impression to count the points, always shifted and always late. I do 2nd in the 1st heat; in the 3rd heat, I light up everyone at the start, I am 1st upwind and reaching, but I get topped like a beginner by our experts carried by a gust that they hit before me... I am too irregular and will ensure a 3rd place. Kobe in the RS Aero 5 doesn't make a mistake and is still in the game despite his rig; clean starts and good placements, 2 rounds of 3rd. Joppe closes the race but we will understand the next day that he hadn't revealed all his game... Day 1: Ludo 1st, Benoît 2, Arnaud 3, Kobe 4, Joppe 5.
Back on shore after 4 races, happy to see the others and enjoy a friendly aperitif around the CVML fireplace. We meet up with the other fleets at the local creperie for a very pleasant dinner with the Breton cider that goes well. The CVML deserves its reputation for hospitality! The rest is spent at the leisure centre where we find our 2 rooms of 4 and our earplugs for a restful night. Breakfast with the view on the leisure park and some mushers who are gathered there for a competition weekend with their dog teams.
First signal at 10:30 am, we quickly set off with a milder forecast than the day before. The sky remains uncertain but the wind is expected to be from the North West to North, across the lake. The windward side will be even shorter, and the edges of the lake will be tricky. On a trapeze tour, once again the starts will be crucial... Here we are (at last) 10 RS Aeros at the start, joined by Serguei in the Laser, whom we welcomed with pleasure. The RS Aero 7 are out, except for Kobe and Anthony who stay in RS Aero 5.
The leaders don't change: from the first race of the day, Ludo takes the lead, followed by Joppe who finally reveals himself - more tonic and more aggressive, he masters his legs better. Benoît is a bit below, but remains in the game. As for me, I'm a bit too creative and impatient, and I take 2 OCS starts out of 4, and that hurts... Each time I'm accompanied by one of our Belgian friends and we try to catch up together without much success. For the last 2 races, thanks to Joppe's insistence and the committee's flexibility, we finally launch 2 rounds with trapeze and inner loop, a longer and more interesting course. On the 4th race however, the wind dropped completely and the last ones struggled to cross the finish line. The end of the regatta is announced and we return to the shore under a very pleasant sun. The boats are quickly put away, just before the rain comes back. The results are given on the terrace of the CVML while those who have to go have already left the enclosure. 3 nice trophies are given to us and I have the pleasure to give to our friends Joppe and Kobe 2 T-Shirts of the Groupe RS Aero France as a thank you from our group for their visit and their great performance. Thanks to Tim for carrying them - next time we expect him on the water too.

- Thanks to the CVML for its welcome! The combination of the logistics of the leisure centre (accommodation and lunches) and the technical mastery of the regatta by the club guaranteed a great weekend for all the participants. Thank you to Antoine for having relayed the project and for taking care of us all weekend.
- Well done to the committee for its efficiency and agility! Launching nearly 40 procedures in changing and quite strong conditions is not easy, and things were done with great control and drive. Thank you!
- We still have a long way to go to introduce our RS Aero. Perhaps this is associated with the fact that our fleet was initially registered in Vareo? We have had a lot of positive feedback about the boat, about its liveliness, the beauty of its lines and the good level of the fleet. We are already looking forward to the 2024 edition and I bet we will get a full course that will increase the game and the options.
- Thank you to those who have travelled so many miles to support this first Parisian event. In particular our Belgian neighbours with whom we promised to meet in Morbihan, Wimereux or Bruinisse (on September 16/17th). Hats off to the team of Experts who came from Port-Blanc to take the 1st places. Finally, thanks to Anthony who took the time to make the journey from Lorient.
- It's always nice to meet the troops again or to discover new faces. This time, it was Christophe! I discovered a little more Benoît and Anthony, and found with as much pleasure Ludo, my companion Benoît and Serge, always calm and composed, but determined on the water.

🇫🇷 Un beau démarrage de saison!
Ca y est, le groupe RS Aero France a démarré a saison en beauté, et ce sont 10 bateaux qui se sont retrouvés au CVML les 18 et 19 Mars derniers, sous un ciel agité et couvert mais dans une super ambiance! L'évènement était organisé par le club de Moisson sur le plan d'eau parisien - une ancienne carrière sur une boucle de Seine - en lien avec la base de l'Ile de loisirs qui offrait une belle logistique et des logements super équipés.
Dès vendredi soir, sous les orages et de fortes pluies, 5 bateaux étaient sur place: Tim Stroobandt avec son fils Kobe et Joppe Pattyn, venus en camping-car de Belgique (Anvers - 6 heures de route!), Anthony Thépot venu de Lorient SNL - Voile Légère ! , Antoine Lasquellecle local de l'étape, Monsieur "accueil", et moi-même qui arrivait de Club Nautique de Wimereux. Accueillis comme il se doit par l'ami Antoine, au coin du feu de bois du Club House, on se retrouve vite autour d'un très bon repas dans un restaurant du coin. Sympa de découvrir Anthony et Antoine autour d'une belle entrecôte et de quelques bières...
Le lendemain, après une nuit confort et un p'tit déj sous une belle lumière (on est proches de Giverny chère à Monet), on se retrouve au Club pour se mettre en jambes et à l'eau rapidement. Le ciel est incertain et le vent souffle déjà bien en plein dans l'axe du plan d'eau, il accélère et tourne pas mal. 18 à 20 knts, ça va être tonique et frais...
Effectivement, on est tout de suite dans le bain... Gros bords de largue où on prend un peu de temps à retrouver nos réflexes et à s'engager suffisamment, remontées physiques, quelques jibes en puissance, et quelques bains pour vraiment démarrer la saison et se décomplexer. Nos amis belges sont en 5 m et visiblement assurent bien. Anthony est aussi en 5 et joue à l'équilibriste. Moi en 7, je fais le malin au portant mais je mets vite à l'épreuve l'étanchéité de ma combi et des chaussettes soi-disant étanches... Le week-end s'annonce bien sportif!
On se regroupe finalement au bord et on vient à la rencontre des autres Aéros arrivés entretemps: Benoit Cailleux qui finalement a pu être là, Christophe Darras et Serge Motet les 2 autres parisiens, et les "Experts" Ludo Pure Nautic et Benoît Radier arrivés avec leur van et leur remorque double depuis le Port-Blanc - Penvenan. Bravo à tous et merci d'avoir fait le trajet pour soutenir ce 1er rassemblement parisien!
Le briefing nous annonce que nous serons les derniers des 4 flottes à prendre le départ, donc après les Weta, les 470 – qui régatent en grade 4 pour leur célèbre Coupe Claudia -, et l’intersérie 5o5/Fireball. En tout, près de 40 bateaux pour lesquels le comité lancera 39 procédures sur le week-end avec beaucoup d’agilité et d’efficacité – merci à lui/elle ! On nous informe aussi que nous courrons sur un simple trapèze avec 5ème bouée et arrivée, alors que les autres naviguent avec une boucle intérieure ou extérieure en plus : visiblement le comité ne semble pas connaître la vitesse de l’Aero et se préoccupe que nous ne ralentissions pas le rythme des procédures… On courra en temps réel parce que notre série n’avait pas été enregistrée en IND au départ ; sur un week-end venté comme annoncé, cela nous semble acceptable.
Premier signal à 13h30 et il nous reste encore du temps avant le départ des Aéros. Mais c’est à ce moment, sous un ciel très sombre, sous la pluie et des rafales musclées, que la flotte se disperse et subit : @antoine se retrouve coincé sous un ponton, plusieurs dessalages se succèdent et certains rentrent se mettre à l’abri, blessés (Anhony) ou échaudés… Ce sont donc 5 bateaux seulement qui prendront le premier départ : Kobe et Joppe en 5m, Ludo, Benoît Radier et moi en 7m.
Sur un parcours si court, prendre un mauvais départ est fatal… Le vent est au milieu, les options ne sont pas nombreuses. A ce jeu, c’est Ludo qui rafle la mise : sans rater de départs, il se bat comme un enragé et ne lâche rien. Il empoche la 1ère manche et la dernière. Benoît, comme à l’habitude, est plus soft, plus précis, et soigne particulièrement la glisse, il rafle les 2 manches suivantes quand Ludo fait 2. J’ai l’impression de compter les points, toujours décalé et toujours en retard. Je fais 2 à la 1ère. A la 3ème manche, j’allume tout le monde au départ, je suis 1er au vent et au largue, mais je me fais coiffer comme un débutant par nos Experts portés par une bouffe qu’ils touchent avant moi… Je suis trop irrégulier et assurerai une place de 3. Kobe en 5m ne se trompe pas et est toujours dans le jeu malgré son gréement; départs propres et bons placements, 2 manches de 3. Joppe ferme la marche mais on comprendra le jour suivant qu’il n’avait pas dévoilé tout son jeu… Jour 1 : Ludo 1er, Benoît 2, Arnaud 3, Kobe 4, Joppe 5.
Retour au bord après 4 manches, contents de retrouver les autres et un apéro très convivial autour du feu de bois du CVML. On se retrouve avec les autres flottes à la crèperie du coin pour un dîner très agréable avec le cidre breton qui va bien. Le CVML mérite bien sa réputation d’accueil !
La suite se passe à la base de loisirs où nous retrouvons nos 2 chambrées de 4 et nos bouchons d’oreilles pour une nuit réparatrice. Petit déj’ avec la vue sur le parc de loisir et les mushers qui sont rassemblés là pour un week-end de compétition avec leurs attelages de chiens.
1er signal à 10h30, on se met en route rapidement avec des prévisions plus clémentes que la veille. Le ciel reste incertain mais le vent est attendu de Nord-ouest à Nord, en travers du lac. Le bord au vent sera encore plus court, et les bords de lac piégeux. Sur un tour de trapèze, encore une fois les départs seront cruciaux… Nous voilà (enfin) 10 Aéros au départ, rejoints par Serguei en Laser que nous accueillions avec plaisir. Les 7m sont de sortie, sauf pour Kobe et Anthony qui restent en 5.
Les leaders ne changent pas : dès la 1èremanche du jour, Ludo prend le lead, suivi de Joppe qui se dévoile enfin – plus tonique et plus agressif, il maîtrise mieux ses bords. Benoît est un peu en-dessous, mais reste dans le jeu. Quant à moi, je fais preuve d’un peu trop de créativité et surtout d’impatience, et je grille 2 départs sur 4, et ça fait mal… A chaque fois je suis accompagné par l’un de nos amis belges et nous essaierons ensemble de remonter notre retard sans trop de succès. Pour les 2 dernières courses, grâce à l’insistance de Joppe et à la flexibilité du comité, on lance enfin 2 manches avec trapèze et boucle intérieure, un parcours plus long et plus intéressant. A la 4ème manche pourtant, le vent tombe complètement et les derniers peinent à passer la ligne. La fin de régate est annoncée et on revient au bord sous un soleil très agréable. Les bateaux seront rangés rapidement, juste avant que la pluie ne revienne de nouveau. Les résultats sont donnés sur la terrasse du CVML alors que ceux qui ont de la route ont déjà quitté l’enceinte. 3 belles coupes nous sont destinées et j’ai le plaisir de remettre à nos amis Joppe et Kobe 2 T-Shirts du Groupe Aero France au titre des remerciements de notre groupe pour leur visite et leur belle prestation. Merci à Tim de les avoir véhiculés – la prochaine fois on l’attend sur l’eau aussi

- Merci au CVML pour son accueil ! La combinaison de la logistique de la base de loisirs (hébergement et déjeuners) et de la maîtrise technique de la régate par le club ont garanti un super week-end à tous les participants. Merci à Antoine d’avoir relayé le projet et d’avoir pris soin de nous tout le week-end.
- Bravo au comité pour son efficacité et son agilité ! Lancer près de 40 procédures dans des conditions changeantes et assez fortes n’est pas simple, et les choses se sont faites avec beaucoup de maîtrise et de drive. Merci !
- Nous avons encore du chemin à parcourir pour faire découvrir notre support ! Peut-être est-ce associé au fait que notre flotte ait été initialement enregistrée en Vareo ?... Nous avons eu beaucoup de commentaires élogieux à propos de l’Aéro, sur sa vivacité, la beauté de ses lignes et le bon niveau de la flotte. Nous sommes déjà attendus pour l’édition 2024 et je parie que nous aurons le droit à un parcours complet qui permettra d’augmenter le jeu et les options.
- Merci à ceux qui ont fait tant de kilomètres pour supporter ce 1er évènement parisien. En particulier nos voisins belges avec lesquels on s’est promis de se retrouver en Morbihan, à Wimereux ou à Bruinisse (les 16 et 17 septembre prochains). Chapeau à la team des Experts venus de Port-Blanc pour truster les 1ères places. Merci à Anthony enfin qui a pris le temps de faire ce trajet depuis Lorient.
- Toujours aussi agréable de retrouver les troupes ou de découvrir de nouvelles têtes. Cette fois-ci, c’était Christophe ! J’ai découvert un peu plus Benoît et Anthony, et retrouvé avec autant de plaisir Ludo, mon compère Benoît et Serge, toujours calme et posé, mais résolu sur l’eau.
- On se retrouve très vite au Der et surtout à la Teignouse !
