Exmoor Beastie - Wimbleball SC, Exmoor, UK, 26th March
At 240m up on Exmoor Wimbleball Lake is southern England's answer to Lake Silvaplana in Switzerland. Or for those who know Salcombe - it is like racing there, with the bends and high surrounds, but without the tides!
Fives RS Aeros joined this years marathon Pursuit of 180 minutes into all the arms of the lake. With a medium breeze of 8-16kn around the course it was set to be good workout and an excellent way to freshen up for the new season.
The four RS Aero 7s started 1 minute ahead of the K1s with 159 minutes to race. A long and hard thought battle ensued with the lead RS Aeros and K1s never more than a minute apart. As the wind went light the advantage went to the K1s and whenever the breeze gusted any planing opportunity swingged the benefit to the RS Aero 7s. Ultimately the K1s took the win with Simon Hawkes safely a minute or so ahead of Peter Barton, with Paul Birbeck's K1 in 3rd. Jacob Chambers finished top Youth in his RS Aero 7.
Thanks to Exmoor Ales and Allen for supporting the event!
