Sail Sydney - Woollahra SC, Sydney, NSW, Australia, 11/12th Dec
Eleven RS Aeros competed at the 2021
Sail Sydney Regatta held last weekend at Woollahra Sailing Club.
Sailors had been keenly watching the weather forecast all week as Sydney seemed to be in a cycle of big southerlies on weekends. Needless to say, they did eventuate, with racing being cancelled on the Saturday due to strong winds of around 28 knots with gusts up to 40 knots!
As predicted, Sunday brought much more favourable conditions with a nice 20 knot breeze.
With three races on the cards a slightly reduced fleet headed out onto the windward/return course set in Rose Bay. A southerly breeze coming off the land meant gusty shifty conditions with Gary Ratcliffe leading the way around the course, and some close racing throughout the fleet.
“The variable breeze & big bullet gusts made for some wild and exhilarating sailing,” said Ratcliffe after sailing “it was great fun racing on the harbour, many thanks to Australian Sailing & Woollahra Sailing Club for organising such a fantastic event”.
Congratulations to Gary Ratcliffe (Georges River SC) on the win from Richard Tew (Balmoral SC) and James Maslin (Georges River SC). Robyn Ratcliffe (Georges River SC) took first in the women’s fleet.
