Write-UpRS Aeros at the Frensham Frenzy - Surrey, UK, 13th November
A mixed fleet of 39 boats took to the water for this postponed autominal Frensham Frenzy. A fleet of six RS Aero 7s, with 3 members joined by 3 visitors, made the largest fleet and a fun Class race within the larger mixed Class pursuit race.
The NW wind direction provided the Race Officer some challenges setting the course with a tree bank sheltering part of the lake and the forecasted 11kn materialising as a light breeze. There was enough breexe for some great close racing and this edition was one for the light wind experts with the 2.4s and Solos both providing a challenge for the RS Aero 7s to catch and pass.
In Race 1 Tom Ahlheid hitched off the start to find the breeze up the first beat and quickly made his get-away on the reaches. He caught all the boats in front but ultimately had to settle for 2nd to the RS100 who came through quickly under spinnaker.
In Race 2 Peter Barton narrowly led Tom for much of the race but this time the front of the fleet were more elusive and the lead RS Aeros only made it up to 7th and 9th.Congratulations
to club Commodore, Megan Pascoe, who took the overall win in her 2.4 with a 3,1.
In the RS Aeros a 2,9, saw Tom Alhheid take an impressive 5th overall and an 8,7 saw Peter Barton take 8th.
