Tognazzi Marine Village, Nationale Italiano Series #9 - Rome, Italy, 6/7th Nov

With the ninth stage now completed of the beach of Capocotta, the regattas of the Italian National RS Aero Circuit 2021, the single-handed sailboat that has quickly grown to about 70 enthusiasts in Italy, have come to an end for 2021.

The final stage, hosted at the Tognazzi Marine Village, and organized under the aegis of the Italian Sailing Federation, took place with a good variety of sailing conditions. On Saturday a light wind and a flat sea allowed the Race Committee, chaired by the expert Mario Lupinelli, to complete four races, while on Sunday, with disturbances in central Italy, it allowed two races to be held with rough seas and winds that reached 24 knots of intensity.

The Sardinian Elias Nonnis won the Roman stage in the RS Aero 5s from Francesca Ramazzotti  (Veliamoci) in 2nd. However, the victory of the circuit, at the end of the nine regatta series scheduled for 2021, was won by Filippo Michelotti from Arco, Garda who was 3rd in this final regatta of 2021 but who also won first place among the Under 18s.

More tightly fought was the victory of the circuit in the RS Aero 7 class, where Leopoldo Sirolli (Tognazzi Marine Village, Rome) and Filippo Vincis (LNI del Sulcis, Sardinia) battled right into the final race for both this event and the season’s title! The Roman stage was decisive which allowed the young Sirolli to take the final race, the event and the annual Italian Series in front of the Sardinian athlete by for just two points. Noel Butler travelled from Ireland together with Roy Van Maanen again and completed the RS Aero 7 podium in 3rd. Guido Sirolli was winner in the ‘Master’ over 55 category and 3rd in the annual series.

“We close the season with a good result in terms of joining the class and participating in the circuit of national regattas” - commented the president of the Italia RS Aero Class Association, Guido Sirolli, who added: "We are defining the calendar of events for 2022 and we will certainly replicate the successful formula adopted this year with training events and a varied but equally stimulating racing circuit on the Italian coast, islands and lakes. RS Aero lightweight performance boats are now a reference in the sailing scene and the growing interest we are experiencing in the RS Aero leads us to think that in 2022 we will be able to exceed 100 boats at our Italian events.”
