Copiers Regatta - Manx Sailing & Cruising Club, Ramsey, Isle of Man, UK, 15th May
Congratulations to Teddy Dunn on his win in the breezy IOM Copiers Regatta with the RS Aeros filling out the top 6. The Isle of Man's exposed location out in the middle of the Irish Sea can see feisty seas running whenever the breeze is up!
Interestingly, similar to our 65 boat Lymington Open, they had 3 races and NO discard which worked in favour of Teddy's consistency this time. It is my view that for 3 races on a 1 day event to throw a third of the days racing away with a discard is simply too wasteful. The RS Aeros reliability and simplicity dramatically reduces the need for discards due to equipment, leaving any risk more subject to sailor's race strategies which they then need to temper accordingly.

With the Easter Regatta falling victim to the third lockdown it was replaced this weekend with one following the same format, three races, one day, no discard.
With a south east breeze in the mid to high teens, the fleet was well tested with a 40 minute first race, after taking pity on the tired looking competitor's, the Race Officer reduced races two and three to a more manageable 30 minutes each.
After winning the first two races it was looking like Phil Hardisty and crew were going to run away with Trophy but a spinnaker mishap cost them dear, with a string of consistent top results Teddy Dunn took top spot overall with Simon Pressly second and Hardisty, Peter Richardson and James Humphrey slipping to third.
