The New South Wales RS Aero fleet enjoyed out-of-this-world weather at Port Stephens for their Intergalactic Championships!

 

Light shifty winds on both days ranged from 4-10 knots, creating some course laying challendes on the Sunday for the excellent race management team. There was some close racing in both fleets with all competitors experiencing issues with weed and debris being washed down from the large storms experienced by NSW in the previous week, the left hand side of the course was favoured being slightly more protected than going right into the strong current washing down the river, with the leading RS Aero 9 sailors showing the fleet the way to go! Unfortunately due to lack of breeze there was only one race on the Sunday, meaning results from Saturday were even more important. 

 

Georges River 16ft Sailing Club’s Mark Hooper took the RS Aero 9 title a few points clear of Boyd Newton, Richard Shaw and Gary Ratcliffe.

Balmoral Sailing Club’s Richard Tew won the RS Aero 7s, just pipping James Maslin.

 

Thanks to The Bay Sailing Centre, managed by Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, for being excellent hosts - the fleet looks forward to returning again!
