RS Aeros in Santa Marinella - The Sardinian fleet takes to top places
With eight races and twenty two crews at the start, the first national regatta of the Italian Circuit of the RS Aero Class, which is quickly attracting Italian sailors, ended in Santa Marinella. The event was organised by the Guglielmo Marconi Nautical Club in collaboration with the Tognazzi Marine Village, near Rome.Although the weather conditions gave weak winds from the west, the fun for the athletes in the race was certainly not lacking, thanks to the characteristics of this boat which, with a weight of just 35 kilos and narrow and powerful water lines, it glides on the surface reaching good speeds even with little wind.
Four races a day, thanks to the masterful direction of the Race Committee directed by Mario Lupinelli with a domination of the Sardinian athletes who won the victory in the RS Aero 5 category, with Ludovica Cui, and in the more numerous RS Aero 7 with Filippo Vincis , both of the Italian Naval League Del Sulcis. For the latter, the victory was not taken for granted: until the last lap just outside the port of Santa Marinella he had to control the opponent Marco Avolio, of the Tognazzi Marine Village who, only with the last race today he gave him the victory and Under 21 title to Vincis, finishing tied on equal points. Bronze for Francesca Ramazzotti, of the Veliamoci club in Oristano, who also won the first place in the women's ranking.
The whole range of the RS Aero class was present in the water, with Lawrence Walker from Tognazzi Marine Village, competing with the 9 square meter sail. First of the veterans, in the RS Master category Stefano De Carolis who imposed himself on the other Over 55yrs. In the water also the president of the Italian class, Guido Sirolli, who on this occasion had the pleasure of competing with his brothers Michele and Stefano, his son Giulio and his nephew Leopoldo.
"It was an occasion from which all the desire and enthusiasm of our fleet emerged, which really wants to resume racing. We had very young people in the water with a reduced sail of 5 square meters, novice athletes with this modern and fun skiff and more experienced sailors who rediscovered the pleasure of having fun on a boat with this boat "commented Sirolli. Stage two of the Italian RS Aero National Circuit continues this coming weekend, again at Santa Marinella.

Con otto prove disputate e ventidue equipaggi al via si è conclusa a Santa Marinella la prima regata nazionale dell'Italian Circuit della classe RS Aero, lo skiff inglese con tre differenti tipologie di armi che sta stregando anche i velisti italiani. A organizzare l’evento è stato il Circolo Nautico Guglielmo Marconi in collaborazione con il Tognazzi Marine Village.
Sebbene le condizioni meteo abbiano fatto registrare deboli venti da ponente, il divertimento per gli atleti in gara non è certo mancato, grazie proprio alle caratteristiche di questa barca che, con un peso di appena 35 chili e delle linee d'acqua strette e potenti, scivola sulla superficie raggiungendo buone velocità anche con poco vento.

Quattro le prove al giorno, grazie alla magistrale regia del Comitato di regata diretto da Mario Lupinelli con un dominio degli atleti sardi che si sono aggiudicati la vittoria nella categoria RS Aero 5, con Ludovica Cui, e nella più numerosa RS Aero 7 con Filippo Vincis, entrambi della Lega Navale Italiana Del Sulcis. Per quest'ultimo la vittoria non è stata scontata: fino all'ultimo lato del percorso a bastone poco fuori dal porto di Santa Marinella ha dovuto controllare l'avversario Marco Avolio, del Tognazzi Marine Village che, solo con l'ultima prova di oggi gli ha ceduto a Vincis la vittoria assolta e Under 21, finendo comunque a pari punti. Bronzo per Francesca Ramazzotti, del club Veliamoci di Oristano, che si è aggiudicata anche la prima piazza della classifica femminile. In acqua era presente tutta la gamma della classe Aero, con Lawrence Walker del Tognazzi Marine Village, in gara con la vela da 9 metri quadrati. Primo dei veterani, nella categoria RS Master Stefano De Carolis che si e’ imposto sugli altri Over 55. In acqua anche il presidente della classe italiana, Guido Sirolli, che in questa occasione ha avuto il piacere di gareggiare con i suoi fratelli Michele e Stefano, il figlio Giulio e il nipote Leopoldo.
"È stata un'occasione dalla quale è emersa tutta la voglia e l'entusiasmo della nostra flotta che desidera davvero riprendere a regatare. Abbiamo avuto in acqua giovanissimi con la vela ridotta di 5 metri quadrati, atleti alle prime armi con questo moderno e divertente skiff e velisti più esperti che con questa barca hanno riscoperto il piacere di divertirsi in barca" ha commentato Sirolli. Prossimo appuntamento fra una settimana, sempre nelle acque di Santa Marinella.
