Tognazzi Marine Village - Italian Open National Circuit 3, Lido di Ostia, Rome, Italy
10/10/2020 - 11/10/2020

Write-Up

Italian Open National Circuit 3,
Tognazzi Marine Village, Lido di Ostia, Rome, Italy, 10/11th October

Twenty-one boats at the start, a wind that fluctuated between six knots on Saturday and thirty knots on Sunday. Really difficult conditions that did not stop the sailors engaged in the Roman leg of the Italian Open RS Aero Circuit, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Tognazzi Marine Village, on the beach of Capocotta.

Despite the particular weather conditions, the Race Committee, chaired by Andrea Mauro, managed to have three races run on Saturday, with flat sea and light wind. The entire "supply chain" of the RS Aero sailing class was represented on the water competing together with time correction factor scoring, from the smaller RS Aero 5 with a 5 m2 sail, to the older brother RS Aero 9, with the largest fleet represented by that of the RS Aero 7.

Winner of this stage of the national circuit was the Gardesano Samuel Naldi with two firsts and a second place. Only one point behind was the young Swiss sailor, Timo Van Roomen, who tried to “snatch” the top of the podium from him until the end. Bronze went to Marco Avolio of the Tognazzi Marine Village, followed by Enrico Borghi of the LNI of Senigallia, competing with the RS Aero 9 sail.

For the president of the Roman sailing club and new Italian RS Aero Class, Guido Sirolli, it was a demanding regatta from an organisational point of view, but full of satisfactions:
"We have been working for a year to launch this boat on the national territory and now we are beginning to appreciate its first fruits. Seeing young athletes in the water with a 5m2 sail next to boats with larger sails means that the message has passed that the RS Aero is a fun racing dinghy, easy to manage, suitable for children as well as adults. The adhesion of the Circolo Vela Arco and the Rimini Nautical Club testifies to the desire to grow and this is our goal for 2021, in the hope that the (pandemic) situation can return to normal”.

Starting line up, raring to go!
