German RS Aero Challenge Series 2018

The German RS Aero Challenge series has continued to go from strength to strength in 2018 and is now complemented with the growing Dutch circuit and the ability of both countries to support each other’s events across the border.

A total of 47 German sailors entered the RS Aero Challenge this year, compared to 35 last year. Thirteen regattas were held (10 in Germany, plus 1 each in GBR, NED & ITA) and eight event ratings were required to qualify. 13 sailors attended the eight events to qualify, a increase on the 8 from the previous year. The most popular National Regatta was at Haltern am See (SCPS) with 17 participants.

The highlight of the season was certainly the RS Aero World Championship in Weymouth, UK with 206 RS Aeros from 16 countries competing. Congratulations especially to Juliane Barthel on her RS Aero 7 Ladies’ world title, the first Lady in the 103 boat RS Aero 7 fleet at Weymouth. Juliane is also the new winner of the German RS Aero Challenge Series 2018. 2nd this time is Marcus Walther, followed by Holger Techen in 3rd place.

A total of 14 Youth sailors participated in events of our RS Aero Challenge and the best teenager this year is Jannis Meyer.
