RS Aero Clearwater Challenge at the RS Feva Worlds
Clearwater, Florida, USA, 5/6 April
by Todd Riccardi

With the RS Feva World’s being held in such an amazing sailing venue the opportunity to have an RS Aero Regatta was too good to pass up so the Clearwater Challenge Trophy at the RS Feva Worlds was born.

The Thursday and Friday were chosen to allow RS Feva parents able to watch their kids sailing in the finals over the weekend.

The entry consisted of 6 Parents, 1 Coach, and 2 non-Feva related sailors. 7 races were held in light breeze and Nick Hutton-Penman sailed the most consistently to take the win just two days before his son Ben Hutton-Penman became the 2018 RS Feva World Champion! Good sailing genes clearly in this family! Part of Ben’s award for wining the world championships is a loan RS Aero for the World Championships this August, there might be quite the father son race! Nick also serves as the UK RS Feva Class President, the Hutton-Penman’s are a true example of the RS Sailing family spirt.

Nick Neve, coach of the Oakham School was caught of video describing his best time all week as “Sailing the Aero with Dolphins circling around me!”.

Cordelia Ellis took home the award for most determined as she regularly challenged the balance of the RS Aero, or maybe she just wanted to enjoy the nice water of the Gulf of Mexico! Either way, she never let up and she kept going the entire event.

Philip Myerson gets the further travelled award (yes the UK is further but they were all really here for the RS Feva Worlds) who flew all the way from Connecticut to compete. Philip has the right idea… RS Aero sailing in Florida in the Winter and we hope he joins us in the Northeast this summer!

David Solnick and Melissa Solnick win the award for the most dedicated winter series attendees, living in New York City they don’t own a car, but they rented one and drove their boat down and each sailed events throughout the winter.

50 Sailors took part throughout the 5 events of the 2018 RS Aero North American Winter Series! Come join us next year!
