Filey SC Regatta, North Yorkshire
Green Frog Genovate RS Aero Northern Circuit - Round 4
17/18th June
Thanks to Nick Craven for his report.
Competition hotting up with a heat wave at Filey!
Fabulous weather again at Filey, really sunny perfect seaside weather. Eight RS Aero 7 entries included the new to the RS Aero class and to the Green Frog Genovate Northern Circuit, Dan Philips (Ripon), who was a very successful Streaker sailor prior to moving to the RS Aero. Competition is hotting up with Steve Stewart (Yorkshire Dales) and Andrew Molyneux (Huddersfield) battling for the win in Iain McGonigal's (East Lothian) absence this time! Both were closely followed by new boy Dan.
Good racing between the rest of the fleet with the girls having another great battle. Julie Archer (Ullswater) sailed well in the heavier wind in race 1 and had a great race with our lone Scot Steve Fraser who eventually just beat her. The second race the wind reduced and Jackie 'Goldilocks' Craven (Yorkshire Dales) raised her game and also had a great race with Steve Fraser who managed to beat her on the final leg!
All to play for on Day 2, the usual social ensued and Filey put on great food and entertainment and of course a few drinks for the thirsty sailors. It was noted that Julie Archer wasn't drinking very much in preparation for the ladies showdown on Sunday ( I believe this is outside northern aero class rules but need to check). Unfortunately due to no wind the Sunday racing was abandoned after awaiting the arrival of a sea breeze! Everyone packed up, we had the prize giving with Steve just beating Andrew on tie break for the win. Then off for fish and chips followed by ice cream.
A great weekend at Filey in the new and improved club house, we will be back next year!
