RS State Titles - Black Rock YC, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
16/04/2016 - 17/04/2016

Write-Up

Nine RS Aeros made it out in  Australia for the Victorian State Titles over the 16/17th April for a full range of conditions....

Brian Case Reports;
"Saturday saw breezes of 14-20 knots and big seas giving everyone challenging conditions upwind and terrific rides downwind, new skills developing every leg. Some spectacular capsizing seemed to be a favourite pastime in the first race with the boat not to crash taking the gun. Very impressive to see the very young (and light) sailors getting their 5's around the course, pretty exciting future. There were a few sore and tired sailors after an afternoon of tough conditions but smiles across the fleet.
Sunday morning saw completely different conditions with under 5 knots greeting starters. This turned a few heads when young and light sailors gave the more experienced a speed lesson. As the day progressed so did the wind with the final race held in 10-14 knots. Some great racing was had with everyone showing huge improvements.
It was an interesting event with plenty experimenting and testing of rigs and techniques, rather than just a championships. Great to see some new youngsters hitting the racetrack in their new boats, things are building and participation is on the increase. Unfortunately, a few of the regulars were not able to make it this weekend to make it a bit tighter at the top. On a personal note, I found the racing with Ron and a couple of others really good, there's not a lot in it and we are all so much better than 12 months ago."

Ron Fergusson reports;
"Thanks to BRYC for another great regatta (held as part of their Annual Skiff Regatta), conclusively won by Brian Case. I nibbled away for a close first in one light air race, and second overall.
Big congratulations to young Michael Parks in his RS Aero 5 for third overall and more than competitive once the breeze started to get above say 7 knots. Last race he was only 2 seconds behind me on yardstick corrected time.
And thanks to Tom Pearce and Sailing Raceboats for supporting the RS classes."

Proud Dad, Tony Parks, reports;
"2016 RS Aero 5 rig VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Victorian RS Aero State Championships were held at Black Rock Yacht Club, Michael Parks won his 4th State Championship for the 2016 year in the 5m rig division of the championships. The RS Aero is not a just junior class of boat, and in this regatta Michael sailed against big grown up men. Best friend Ethan Hosking also sailed in this regatta with some competitive clashes between the boys and the older sailors. Michael also came 3rd in the overall division where all classes were handicapped to find the overall winners. A great boat and a great regatta put on by Black Rock Yacht Club. Well done Tom Pearce."
