Congratulations to Christer Bath of RS Sailing Sweden on winning the first Pelle Petterson award!
The Pelle Petterson Prize is a gift to Pelle, on his 90th birthday, from the Swedish Sailing Federation who created a prize in his honour. Pelle Petterson is one of Sweden's most famous sailors, Olympic medallist and boat designer. The prize is to be awarded annually to a person who is a good ambassador and role model in Swedish sailing. The trophy - designed in collaboration with Pelle - includes a compass from HUMBUG XIX.
The first person to receive the award was Christer Bath who, amongst many other accomplishments, has in recent years been passionate in helping to build the strong RS Aero Youth fleet in Sweden.
The committee's reasoning reads as follows:
'With a never-ending commitment to sailing in general and dinghy sailing in particular, Christer Bath has, for a decade, worked purposefully to get more children and young people to start sailing and for fewer to stop. Through curiosity, persistence and innovative thinking, the prize winner has inspired many sailors and spread joy. Almost every weekend he is there, sailing in a dinghy at various regattas. He coaches, fixes and encourages – always ready with a helping hand.'
