DATCHET FLYER Selden SailJuice Winter Series 2, 8/9 Dec
Sounds like it was a breezy one!
With 30 Youth RS Aeros at Chew for Youth winter training and another 24 at Lymington for the Christmas river racing a small but determined band of 3 RS Aero 7s braved the gales to join the 82 boat mixed class Datchet Flyer weekend with three PY races on Saturday and a Pursuit race on Sunday.
Chris Hatton led the charge pulling off a commendable 29th overall, a great result for the light sailor in the strong breeze. Andy Hill and Charlie Sansom had 1 good race each but succumbed to the bonkers conditions.
With the top 3 boats of each class in each race to count for the SailJuice Top Class competition the minimal team struggled to score points and the RS Aero 7 Class dropped from 1st Class out of 39 classes at Draycote to 7th overall now after round 2. That’s just fine, with 2 Sailjuice rounds gone and 5 more to go 7th place and the prospect of a steady comeback is a much more exciting place to be than defending 1st from a chasing pack.
We have a strong, although again small, turnout of 4 RS Aeros at Yorkshire Dales on the 27th. Then on the 30th December at the Grafham GP we already have 10 RS Aeros entered, with 8 RS Aero 7s. The mass Bloody Mary Pursuit follows on 12th January where we can usually expect another good turnout and as a pursuit you have the interest of the Class start within the several hundred boat mixed fleet – best of both worlds. Lets hope to see that RS Aero 7 Class score heading back up the SailJuice Top Class leader board over the next few events!
ENTER for the GrafhamGP and the Bloody Mary
