ROUND SHEPPEY RACE
This Saturday 5th is the annual IOS Round the Island Race and I recommend it to all RS Aero sailors.
A combination of open sea, estuary and river sailing with a likely bias towards reaching being the Island course plus a probable Northerly wind. There is the possibility to 'up size' your rig with medium winds forecast, the bias towards reaching and the low tide in the Swale making the tighter parts more sheltered.
The RS Aero's ability to easily raise the dagger board and temporarily uncleat the rudder will also assist on some corner cutting on this course (see the detailed plan). This race has been won several times by Blazes and in medium wind planning conditions the RS Aeros have to be in the running.
The RS Aero 9s will be the slowest boat in the Medium Fleet start at 11:00 which will be an interesting challenge trying to hang with faster boats setting the pace. The RS Aero 5s and 7s will start in the Slow Fleet start at 10:30, being chased by the 9s.
Have a big day out and give it a go - especially if you boat is packed up and ready to go after the Nationals.
