The first stop of the RS Aero Florida Winter Series 2025/26 took place at Halifax Sailing Assn, Daytona Beach.
The 'Pink Ribbon' Breast Cancer Awareness Regatta is hosted by the Windward Women's sailing group to raise funds for local breast cancer nonprofit service providers and promote local youth and adult small boat sailing whilst running an environmentally friendly regatta. Proceeds will benefit Halifax Health Foundation’s Charles L. and Miki N. Grant Cancer Center for Hope for the patient assistance program as well as Heart Strings Boutique’s assistance program
HSA ran a Clean Regatta certified by Sailors for the Sea. This focused on eco-friendly practices such as reducing single-use plastics, implementing proper waste disposal and promoting sustainable boating habits. These efforts help protect marine life and preserve the waterways for future generations.
The Pink Ribbon consisted of Class racing with 9 RS Aero sharing a course with Optis and Sunfish. Congratulations to Eli Simpson (Melbourne YC) on taking the win with a 1,2,1 from Amelia Graham (Saint Augustine YC) with Bob Patterson in 3rd.
Sunday's Turkey Trot run by the Embry Riddle Sailing Club had a mixed class fleet of 17 boats which included 6 RS Aeros and competed on corrected times over just one 2 hour, 12+NM, distance race with very gusty and shifty winds. Congratulations to Bob Patterson on taking the overall win, with David Gray a close 2nd - just 24 seconds behind Bob! They each received hand made trophies to accompany their turkey and roasting chicken, respectively, as traditional Trot awards!
